Trees, Trout, Smallies and Scenery... summer 2015
Trees, Trout, Smallies and Scenery... summer 2015
Summertime!! Came fast and now already nearly gone, a report is due.
Spring then summer arrived, and along came project work on the home front. Lots of work to be done, and the dry month of May allowed good progress. Planted a few trees in the front... have been planting trees every spring for many years. With the pending demise of the Green Ash trees, maples have been on the order sheet.
Drilling a few holes
Meantime, out back, have been tearing out undesirable trees and clearing trails in the woods. Really enjoying this work, and things are progressing nicely. There will be a winter bonfire here around February 2016, likely a gathering of friends after a day of ice fishing.
Bonfire Fuel
With June came lots of rain, including a few thunderstorms, to remind me that summer is upon us and there is more to life than the homework, although I do admit the outdoor work is enjoyable. A few fishing outings would put me back in the swing of summer once again!
Anvil Clouds
It was great to be out again on the local lakes, recharge time with some fishing, scenery and relaxing. I never tire of this, my Nirvana.
Nirvana Calling
A few times were out with friends, other fishing trips were solo this year, with my son working full time this summer. But he still enjoys fishing with dad, and that is an enjoyable time spent for both. A few other times the rest of the family came out, but on these family outings, fishing is more of a pastime than a passion.
Good times - make em count
The lakers are always a hit on this channel, still enjoy playing the video game - jig - chase and thump!
Fun and Games
Mostly prefer to fish the greys on the jig, but kicked back a couple hours on the troll. Jigging is great to feel the hit, whereas trolling is occasionally a nice way to unwind and relax... especially when the wind picks up.
Watching the rod tip
Quite a few lake trout came airside this summer, mostly caught jigging. All were released. Took pics of a few specimens...
Lake trout here and there
The smallmouth were very much in a biting mood this summer. Some of the outings were 20 fish, best outing was 50+. I spent a bit more time dialing in the smallmouth this summer than I normally do. Sizes: Quite a few 8-10", with 12-14" being the most common, a few 17-18" fish also in the mix, and one 19" tank.
Summer Smallies
A few additional scenery pics from this summer...
Looking forward to the coming months, smallmouth are on the radar. September and October are prime time and the frequency of bigger fish goes up. Mist rising from the morning water and hungry fat bass rising below. Hunting season slows my fishing down, another 6 weeks for me.
The bugs will soon be gone and this tree frog will no longer be on our window every night.
Tree frog
Doe reminding that fall is coming
Have a great fall season everyone!!
Cheers

Great report, beautiful scenery.
All fishermen are liars except for you and me, and to tell you the truth, I'm not sure about you.

Try running and gunning with that ice auger!
Pretty country to relax in Len and jig or troll up them lakers. With ya dood, any way to fish 'em is fine but jigging is preferred.
Only one day of bass this year for me, hope to find a little smallie time at some point.
Enjoy your fall with the boy, hunting, fishing and "taking it all in." Great pics.

Awesome fish, pics, report. It's been a while since we've seen a report of yours. Nice to see you're back...
Walleye'm fishing, you're sleeping.
Re: Trees, Trout, Smallies and Scenery... summer 2015
Yep, you have been out on the soft water a LOT more than me this year..........
............priorities.....................
...and heck, I am RETIRED, so every day is a possible fishing day!
It would be nice to catch a Charleston Lake laker that is IN season for a change! But then I might want to keep it and EAT it!
One of these days, Len..............

And why not, hehe, but your running out of time there Dougie. I still drag gang trolls with lead core or copper for Greys. Old time stuff that still works. Even with riggers and mono. This will be my first year not there in quite a while. Regardless of the fishing, it's a gorgeous lake to be out on any season. You could always go for a fall smallie run too.Doug wrote:It would be nice to catch a Charleston Lake laker that is IN season for a change! But then I might want to keep it and EAT it!

Hi O4T -
Enjoyed your summer recap, and loved those "Nirvana" photo's.....what's NOT to love there?!
Glad you got outdoors and made the most of the season, which -- to me, anyway -- seems shorter every year.
I've got to get a little summer report up soon as well.
W.
PS: nice nature shots, too!

Thanks, Dad, for taking me fishing when I was a kid.
