I fish different than most people here targeting and looking for multiple species. I like to target them specifically and not just catch them as by catch.
I had good year on the bank but I did not meet my personal goal for hitting 30 freshwater species with 5 being new species to me. I caught 25 freshwater species and had 3 new ones. I was hoping to focus more trout and salmanoids but I did not have much of a chance to spend on them as I wished this fall.
The three new caught species this year:
Barbot (Lota lota):
Realy happy I found a couple of these guys late in the season
Logperch (Percina caprodes)
Once you find these guys and dial into them I seem to have found them in many places:
Longnose Gar (Lepisosteus osseus)
I had a lot of fun with these guys this year. Spend many nights with them.
I did catch a laker this year but it was out of season.
The biggest fish I caught this year:
Lake Sturgeon (Acipenser fulvescens)
From Montreal:
From the Ottawa
Bullhead/Catfish family:
Yellow Bullhead (Ameiurus natalis)
Brown Bullhead, Ameiurus nebulosus
Channel Catfish (Ictalurus punctatus)
Suckers/Carp
Silver Redhorse (Moxostoma anisurum)
Shorthead Redhorse (Moxostoma macrolepidotum)
Common Carp ((Cyprinus carpio)
White Sucker (Catostomus commersonii)
Sander family:
Walleye (Sander vitreus)
Sauger (Sander canadensis)
Yellow Perch (Perca flavescens)
Interesting:
Fresh Water Drum (Aplodinotus grunniens)
Mooneye (Hiodon tergisus)
Fallfish (Semotilus corporalis)
Creek Chub (Semotilus atromaculatus)
Normal Stuff:
Black Crappie (Pomoxis nigromaculatus)
Smallmouth Bass (Micropterus dolomieu)
Largemouth Bass (Micropterus salmoides)
Northern Pike
Bluegill (Lepomis macrochirus)
Rock Bass (Ambloplites rupestris)
Pumpkinseed (Lepomis gibbosus)
I did manage to go saltwater fishing while in Florida and I caught a number of fish there. Details of which can be found here:

Excellent Year Zippy! Plus your choice of hockey team was more than offset by a nice cream ale and one of the tastiest looking fish fry presentations I have seen.... I love tomatoes with fish.
Got my vote!

PS. If you can land a Chain pickerel next year (which I would swear in a court of law that I saw in a local lake two years ago but is disputed to exist in this area) the beer will be on me. Land an Eel as an accidental bycatch on the Ottawa River (which I detested hauling in as a kid but would be nice to know that we have not eliminated completely) as well, and I'll buy you a case! On the record now

Garden grown tomatoes with blacked fish a cool cream ale.... It was a good mealPeron wrote:Excellent Year Zippy! Plus your choice of hockey team was more than offset by a nice cream ale and one of the tastiest looking fish fry presentations I have seen.... I love tomatoes with fish.
Challenge accepted... I intend to collect on that beer! I have a couple of leads on eels... My buddy caught one when we were sturgeon fishing in Montreal. Joco caught one in the Ottawa early last season... Chain and grass pickerel are harder to come by but are definitely there likely within an hour of Ottawa. They are easily confused with juvenile pike though. Take good pictures if you ever think you have one. A couple of guys I know catch them just over the boarder in NY.Peron wrote: PS. Great year for you Zip! You bring lots of variety on here with your shore adventures while bringing attention to multiple species which most of us have never targeted.

Re: Year End Report - My Multi Species Year
Very interesting display of catches. So many species available to catch locally, we are so fortunate. Looked like a great season for ya Zippy!!
