Splake report
Went after splake in the Madawaska/Whitney area last weekend. The 2 of us that had licenses caught our limits in about 3 hours. All fish were about 1 1/2 pounds (stocked in 2016), and were caught leadcore trolling with 1/3 oz Little Cleo rainbow trout pattern spoons baited with bits of cut minnow. I estimate that the fish were about 15-20 feet deep when hooked. My leadcore setup is a Fenwick PLP 55 and Abu 6000C, both made in the early '70s and fun as heck to fish with.

Very nice outing, great report too. Gotta get me some splake this fall!
Re: Splake report
Nice. I have float tubed a few lakes in that region with little success. Except for being able to be in a piece of wilderness heaven.

Re: Splake report
banjo, were you by chance fly fishing? I've found that the fish in these stocked lake are very "meat" focused: minnow-tipped lures for splake, and worm-tipped lures for brook trout increase your chances of catching exponentially. Also, it helps to consult stocking info. and try these lakes the year after they've been stocked (2 years and they're pretty much fished out).
