Mississippi Open Report

SEBO had an open on Mississippi Lake yesterday and after spending a week at that cottage my parents rented I thought what the heck, I might have a shot.

The day started off great for us we hit my secret spot and had over 13 lbs before 8 am. The butterflys had now dissappeared and I was very optomistic with about 5 other quality spots lined up. And then the wind came a blowin'

we couldn't add another fish to the livewell until 3:30

and came in with 13.82. We still did place 7'th out of 43 teams which seemed to surprise a lot of people (especially myself) because most of these guys had never seen us before. It was my first payday and it was enough to make our entrance fee back and cover gas for the day

The winning weight was 18.12 and big fish came in at 5.68

a real hog. I can't help but think if the wind would've been a little calmer we would've had a shot at third but I guess that's tournament fishing

Gone fishin,
Just got in from fishin' this morning, and the wind was blowing pretty hard today too. Drifted the flats in 10' of water on the second lake and caught a few good bass trailing a worm on a floating jighead with a 1/4 oz. of weight 3' up the line. Did you try this pattern or were you flippin or draggin worms in the slop? I've found that the drift pattern on the Miss works well if the winds from the south, and will score on walleye well at times also.

Congrats GF. It's nice to see new faces do good. I don't think people were suprised... It was more like impressed. I was standing there and everyone watching was talking about the smile on your face when you picked up the check. I heard a few people say... "looks like we have another team hooked". It was a tough fish. We finished 2nd and wind was definately a problem. Especialy if you were in a smaller boat. Nothing pays off like a week on the water prior to a tourney.

Hey GoneFishin'. it's nice to have a limit in the box by 8am. Congrats on 13.82 pounds of fish for seventh place...well done. BassAngler68, finishing 2nd must have you shaking your head..........one more kicker would've sealed the WIN

I didnt quite miss this one......

Tony left a message on my cell a day after I had gone to the park, and theres no way I could check my messages up there!! I was dissapointed no doubt when he said he had someone else lined up, especially as I fished with him the week before up there as well and saw the fish coming out of there, and I had figured tony and I could have done well as a team, but you know what!?

Tony and I have learned so much more in this one season alone about bass fishing that im confident we can rank like this again!!

I mean heck if I can start fishing only plastics for bass this year, and adding to the fact that flipping is becoming one of my favorite things, I see could things for tony and I next year!!

Heck I dont want summer to end now!! At the beginning of the tourney fishing I will admit that I wondered if I would do it again next year! But now that im done doing them once a weel now, its killing me!!

Thanks a lot guys. We did do the drift thing but all our fish came from 7 feet, also I had to slow the drift with the trolling motor or we would've been literally trolling.

BassAngler68 I didn't realize that you were Fish-Hawk guys, congratulations on coming in second, way to go! Did you have the same problem as us with all the good fish disappearing with the wind? I guess there was no hiding my excitement when I picked up the check, I was sure we would've needed closer to 15 pounds to get paid but was happy to be wrong

And yes, they were right another team hooked, we're contemplating Muskrat this week but we're going to see how the prefishing goes. Either way we'll definitely see you next year.

It was nice to have a limit by 8am but around 2 the frustration as to where the fish went was getting to us. We caught fish throughout the day but they were too small to keep we were so relieved to get that last minute fish.

The only reason that I took Ben (my partner) instead was because I wasn't sure if Ransome would be able to come for a number of reasons. And I didn't have time to wait to find out because for Ben to come he had to switch a shift at work which he had to get done ASAP. Next time though for sure

Ben was excited also as this was his first Bass Tournie and I think he may be hooked aswell.

Way to go GF!! I was also there for the SEBO tourney, and let me tell you it was not as good for me and my partner. We have fished Mississippi lake many times before, but never came up as short as we did on Sunday. Of course the wind was absolutely no help what so ever. SEBO has a great bunch of guys. The best I did this year was place 13th place on Clayton lake and thats by catching all our five fish in the last hour! Well I hope we will have better luck at the next tourney at Muskrat lake next sunday.
