Baptiste Lake
Baptiste Lake
Anyone here know anything about it? It's a pretty good sized lake just west of Bancroft. I'm spending some time there this summer and from what I've heard it's a beautiful lake and one of the best fishing lakes in the province.

I fish there every........
I fish there every secound weekend at least. What was it you wanted to know?

I'll be there in mid July. I'll be staying at the mouth of Lavallee Bay, towards the narrows. Is it worth fishing in that area or should I head up the lake?
So far all I know is it's suppose to be shallow at the west end and deeper at the east end. I don't even have a depth map of the lake.
What is the general fishing like? What kind of patterns, lures etc. seem to work best. Is it better for smallmouth or largemouth? How about the walleye, laker and musky fishing? What are the better areas for each?
Most of the lakes I fish do not have that kind of variety and if they do fishing is slow for one or two species.

Hi Ganman,
I have a good map of Baptiste and Elephant lake I can share with you. Drop me an email if you'd like me to send you it.
I spent a few weeks in the area a couple of summers ago. Beautiful lake.
I spent my fishing time on Elephant and Benoir lake when I was up there. We stayed on Benoir lake, but you're able to get into all 3 lakes.

ganman, what is it you're going after? A particular species?
I think my brother fished Baptiste in the past. I'll ask him.
I've been on Elephant, but only once and that was about 14 years ago.
I do recall it was very wild and scenic; it was either there or at Mississagagon (spelling?) that we saw a deer swim across the lake. That whole area is gorgeous, for sure. I'd like to get back up in there some time in the future...

Thanks, Dad, for taking me fishing when I was a kid.
Hey Wolfe,
There are three lakes, Baptiste, Elephant, Benoir all connected. Thanks to MuskyMusky and Mike I know a little more about it. Baptiste is the deepest and Elephant looks real shallow. It'll be interesting to compare the fishing with down here. I'm told Baptiste is alot like Bob's, I hope the fishing is better. I spent some time on Bob's last spring and then a week in summer. I worked hard at finding fish. I found the bass fishing was OK but nothing like Gananoque Lake, Dog or Charleston. I have trips planned for Big Gull and White Lake too.
