New "GULP!" Plastic Baits from Berkely

I tried GULP last year and caught some nice walleye on the chartruese minnow ones. Dont leave them on your jighead overnight, they turn rock hard!! I had to chip the damned thing off!!

I tried it and found it a little better than others, the gulp corn works awsome for carp. If you chun with normal corn and bait the rig with gulps it produces.

One thing is seal the package up good and DON'T leave hooks inside. I left an owner hook in for a while and it got destroyed near the eye.

They work well, not sure if they work any better than normal plastics. The only negative is they are a one use only. Once they hit the water, you can't put them back in the package for use another day.

True RRC, but you can get a lot of use out of one during the day. They are a disposible bait, not something you want to keep forever....although the price makes you want to!

The gulp baits actually say on the package not too put used baits back in the package.

As with most baits Gulp has it pros and cons. The selling point of these baits is they break down. A lot of other plastics will remain in the water or land fills for years and years. Gulp won't. Nice to see Berkely thinking of the envirnoment. It give anglers an option.

I agree you can get a lot of use out of them in one day.......they definitly out last live bait. If you compae them to live bait, they are probably cheaper as live bait is typically a one fish use only, while gulp in many cases can be reused fish after fish. Maybe we should be comparing them to live bait rather than plastics

Probassing...another good point of GULP is what if the fish does ingest the bait. I figure GULP will do no harm. not sure how well a plastic bait digests in a fishes belly.

Good points RRC. Maybe it's better to compare Gulp plastics to livebait instead of other plastics. I read an article that mentioned you could re-use the Gulp if you stored the used lures individually in a zip lock bag (I seem to remember another point about spraying a used bait with Pam or something as well). Regardless, I'm sure the used Gulp wouldn't last more than a week before it started to break down. That's another good point that probassing brought up; Gulp breaks down on a lake bottom or in a fish's belly...whereas plastics can hang around for centuries before decomposing. I can't say anything about how effective the new baits are because I haven't tried them yet. Markus mentions that you should consider them a disposable bait, and that's more along the lines of live bait (I can't believe the 80+ smallmouth he caught in a day on this bait..amazing ). The mixed reviews on this thread somewhat dampened my enthusiasm about Gulp, but I'll give it a try anyway this coming season.....the favorable fishing article I read about it can't be all wrong.

I caught a smallmouth last summer.....with a little something pink hanging from its....well...bung... I gave it a tiny yank.....and out it came....Gulp bait.... ..Good as new!

I have never had a fish touch my gulp baits, personaly i think that they are GARBAGE. Out of all the plastic baits ive ever used nothing is better than power baits.

I started off not really having any confidence in these baits, but it was one day in the summer I think after reading threads here about Gulp that made me give it some more tries. On one particularily good walleye outing the Gulp seemed to out produce the Powerbaits. But that said, it was only that one time. I think Powerbaits still have an advantage for some reason, and I prefer their action in the water. They're more lively.
