I learned to fish on a baitcaster back when there was no such thing as a left-cranking reel. So I feel comfortable with a right-hander, and change hands automatically while the lure is in the air. There are technical advantages to casting with the handle facing up, but that's not the main reason I stick to righty reels for baitcasting. I like to take a left-cranking spinning outfit with me as a spare. When my left hand, wrist and forearm start to get tired or sore from holding the baitcaster, I switch to spinning and let the right arm take over. This ability to switch is handy when you fish every day, fish long hours, or are no longer a kid (all of which apply in my case).
For me it's "left" hands down. I have much better control and stronger hooksets using my right arm where it belongs. The problem is, your selection of baitcasters isn't as great.....This is starting to change though, as more and more people realize the advantages of a "lefty" baitcaster.
