A new friend for my 90

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Nice addition...

With all these boats poping up I'm going to have to head down south to pick one up again

Hey Markus great choice on your kicker. I have a Yammy on my boat as well and it's great.

I picked up a kicker plate also, but I'm considering mounting it dirrectly to the transom. I've seen a few on kicker plates and I don't ike how they shake around when trailering. This 9.9 is heavy. My plate is rated for the weight, but I think the trnsome might be a better option.

Also, can you mount a transom saver on the side were the kicker is? Or do you think thats nesessary?

Nice Kicker Markus...

I have been looking at the Merc 9.9 Pro Kicker to add to my boat this year. Same reasons as you... saftey, less time on big motor and less Gas.

Panther - MarineTech make a great steering rod that connects to the main outboard steering bar and then to the kicker.

I am sure you will enjoy that Yamaha... :D

I've seen conector rods that attack like that one ET - at the top and I've seen the bars that connect the two shafts.

Has any tried them both?

Is there a certain mounting rule of thumb that dictates which way to go?

Mark, it sure is gonna be nice trolling with the wind at your back without the blue smoke blowing back on ya. Now you won't go home smelling like you lawn mowed your trout.

Carlco brought up something that I cannot find. I was looking for the thread about "show me your boat" or whatever it was called.
With Spring coming, and everyone getting excited about their new rides, or just tweaks and cleaning they have done to the old, I think we need to see a few shots of boats.
Moderators, can you find that thread?

If you want a some stainless tubing to m ake up a connector between the two i can grab some at work for you. We just use pneumatic fittings so you can snap it on and off like on your air compressor

Most of the Professional Walleye Tour boats that I have been on or seen all use the bar like the link in my post to you. The bar on the inside allows you to quickly disconnect in the boat to use the tiller handle to steer. The bars at the back would be hard to disconnect once in the water.

I am sure they both work fine...

A buddy of mine had a transom saver homemade by a friend of his who was handy with a welding machine I'm sure that somebody u know is!!
it went from the lower unit of the kicker motor to a welded bracket on the trailer and he put a pin thru with a hole and cotter pin assemply.and a big strap around lowerunit.
When hell freezes over, I'll be there icefishing!!!

If you can't stand behind our troops,
Please feel free to stand in front of them!!!

Experience is that marvellous thing that enables you to recognize a mistake when you make it again

I would go with the bracket ET posted, I have a buddy with the other one and twice last spring he climbed into 54 deg. water to reattach it  Maybe it was a bad one but!

You are going to love the kicker. Your big motor will love you too as they aren't designed for trolling! I had the linkage like ET showed and so did my dad and it worked great. I also had a trolling plate but I took the motor on and off when I trailered it! Either way, you are going to love it!

Congrats on the new kicker Markus. I have the same motor(15hp) but exact same weight and dimensions. This is my third year and it has run perfect.

I have the exact same bar that Eyetracker linked to from cabelas and it works great.....(also a lot cheaper than the ez steer setup that goes on the back of the shafts)

As far as the transom savers go...I got one from cabelas as well that is very quick to put on. Just bolt the mounting plate on the trailer and the bottom of the transom saver fits in the hole. No bungees or crawling under the trailer. Just a bungee around the motor.

Marcus...congrats on the new kicker. As far as the linkage goes, i would think the one Eye tracker posted would be the way to go, mine is a little different than most....I had to have it custom made, I'm not going to be using the kicker this year, I'm going with a trolling Plate, I realy find the kicker a pain in the butt, unless you have a throttle control at the drivers postion, going back every few miutes to adjust the speed....well I think Ill put my 10 hp, in storage, take off the kicker bracket , the kicker Bracket , in my opinion is not made for Four Stroke motors(SEEM TO BE TO HEAVY), they shake and are hard to put down and lift up....but with one you don't need a long Shaft motor...I will be looking into a better system...and there is no hurry...2.5 MPH for salmon is easy with the Ninty...I bought the kicker for Quinte, I think the trolling plate will work just as well.. I'll still have the 10 on the back at Quinte , good back up motor ..just incase you run into problems with the main motor
