Favorite Pike Lure

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Some things I've had luck with:

Large beetlespin rigged with SHAD shaped soft body. I much prefer the "hammered" blades over the plain ones.

Big spinners, such as jale6666 suggested. Being C&R, I don't like throwing small treble lures when fishing for pike, as they can engulf them and get deep hooked.

Large Daredevle, Red & White (classic!)

Timberdoodle or Johnson Silver Minnow in and around some deep pads, tipped with plastic grubs or a "frog".

Good luck this summer! Hope you have lots of pike stories and pic's to share.:D

W.
Thanks, Dad, for taking me fishing when I was a kid.

My favourite is a 1/4-3/8 oz bucktail jig. I tie my own and I leave the bucktail as long as possible. Also add some krystal flash or flashabou. The jig is 4-5 inches long. Usually I make them multi-coloured, start with a black jighead with yellow or white eyes. Colour combos are anything with a dark back and lighter sides.

Also I like a #4 or 5 Mepps. I like the original with red/white blades and yellow body and no dressing on the hook.

I'm going to give Husky Jerks a try this year. Bought a couple including the famous clown. Gonna be hard to top the jig. On the St Lawrence with the jig 20+ fish are only an average day. I don't know about all the trebles either.

Pike lures

  Mr. J:

WOW :D :D If they can't see that, sumthens wrong fer sure. Looks like a goodey.

Mine is a jig (any colour) and a BIG yellow twister tail, maybe with a stinger.

Any type of spinner bait, heavy on the yellow, or bucktail jig with twister tail.

For surface; a Bomber Long A, reeled very slowly, stop and go, like a crippled minnow.

Failing all these, a stick of TNT is usually productive.

My all-time go-to pike lure is a Ruby-eyed wriggler spoon;

A close second would be an el cheapo neon-yellow/red 5-of-diamonds imitation - the cheap lightweight tin ones seem to out-perform the real thing, must be the extra flutter, even if the paint rarely survives a good weekend and you'll probably want to put a quality hook on instead of that cheap treble

Third: Anything hammered brass

Four: Double-tail Mister Twister (white/black/yellow).
There are few problems in life which can not be solved with a well-placed, high-explosive projectile.

Pike

My first try is a silver spoon with 2 red beads, simulating eyes, then the red devil. I have always had success w/ these in the northern lakes.
Great thread.

Deep diving husky jerks. Remember that pike are cool water fish and the bigger fish will be found in the cooler deeper waters. Rapala DT16's will get you down deep if you wish to cash on the step drop off shorelines that are plentiful in Temagami

Had lots of luck last year with this snagless inline spinner. You can fish it many ways...anywhere.
