Mr. J, et al;
Don't ever stop thinking man. I don't. My take on everything is that there is always another way to do something....it may not be better than the way it is now, but if no one ever thought of new ways, then where would we be.
The idea is a valid one, and has been brought up many times before. I've been wrestling with this very topic for a while now on what to do. How many forums is too many?
The reason why we have a Fishing Talk forum is so that we can discuss everything in one place so that people do not have to go flipping around from forum to forum to see what is going on. yes, there will be some information that some people find interesting, and other information that some do not find interesting, but we cannot possibly create forums for every different topic. What we have tried to do is to separate our forums according the what we feel the majority of people, in relation to the forum that we are targeting, would be interested in. For example, most of the talk that happens in the Fishing Talk forum is about Eastern Ontario fishing. This does not really benefit those in the Great Lakes area since they have a different type of fishing that we don't necessarily get here....so we created a forum to talk about that stuff. The non-Fishing forum is self explainatory. We've even been thinking of adding a "Float and Fly Fishing Forum" as a new forum to begin to strike up conversation on those topics. I think it would generate a lot of traffic.
We have added some forums where no one can post to.....however people can reply to topics that we move there. The reason why we move them there is so we can save the information and it does not get buried or purged from the system. It's great information and I don't want to lose the content. The Community Fishing Stories and Tips are examples of these types of forums.
Just the other day it was suggested to create a forum for Conservation and Political Topics. Again, while I like the idea, whether we like it or not, conservation and politics is part of everyone's fishing, not really specific.
So how much is too much? Some like many forums of different topics, some like to get it all in one place. We try to make sure that when we do create a new forum, it is being created for a specific reason, either to capture the audience on the Great Lakes and give them a place to chat, save important information for posterity, provide a means for our supporters to get their messages out to you guys and gals, or introduce a new type of fishing that will provide value to those who partake in it, such as Float Fishing or Fly Fishing.
Great idea Mr. J, however I don't think boating is really a category that would add more value to the forum. Keep em coming.
