Pike Fishing: Wire Leader, No leader or fluorocarbon?

I will even go further by saying that break-offs were actually rare.
That said, I have never used flurocarbon so if anyone has good success with these, please keep us posted.

Same for me...sure I've had it happen but I've caught tons of pike - even some decent sized toothy ones while jigging eyes with leaderless mono. If I deliberately decide to target pike I will opt for a 12" black wire leader, but I don't stay home for lack of leaders.

Only used Fluro once (with Hoser) not a fair comparison cuz the eye's were off that day (day after that massive tropical rainstorm last summer). I'll be trying it as a leader for eye's this season.

I was also wondering anyone here has ever used TyGer Leaders?

Tyger Leaders are knottable stainless steel leaders. Yes, they say they are flexible enough to be tied right on like normal mono???

About leaders, wire leaders should be fine but shy away from anything crimpped only buy twisted or tied leaders. Make sure they have quality cross lock snaps and quality swivels.

If you decide to use flouro go heavy.

Do not tie directly as pike and muskies have no problem cutting through braid.

For me when i'm after pike, wire leader always. Either pike will hit anything or just watch it swim by, so I don't see the advantage of a flouro leader. I'd hate to lose that monster because it bite through.

When you're after pike, fluoro isn't for stealth, it's for toughness. I'm told that very heavy fluoro is more bite resistant than braid or regular mono. And suppposedly it doesn't kink like wire. It's probably worth a try, but I've got a bunch of wire leaders in my big-fish box, so I'll keep using them.

The biggest pike I ever cauhgt; 15pounds was caught with just a plain hook on 8pound mono. I never did like using big leaders or wire. If I am using cranks I just use a hook snap as per everything else I use. I do have 14 pound Iron Silk on my bait caster which I can't really cast. This is what I would use if I could cast the darn thing.

I baught myself 2 spool off MONO,,,,,,,,,,its cheaper them fluo,,,,,,,,

one 80 pound and one 60 pounds monofialment,,,,,,,,,

so you can used them for a day or two and trow them after,,,,

i think the clarity off the water is a BIG factor,,,,,,,,,,,,,

i saw some pike hit a chain wit walley on it,,,,,,,,,so dont think a little leader make a difference,,,,,,

Well as some of you have heard, I made my worst goal of a lifetime this winter, I lost 12 pike in one day because of not using steel leaders, i think ive learned my lesson now. Ive never used fluorocarbon leaders in the summer, I think i will stick with my steel leaders tho
