Port Hope for Salmon

I fish Port Hope. The fish have been out between 8 miles and 11 miles. Sometimes further based on water temps.

Within 1 mile you MAY get the odd lunker and it does happen, but the schools are out a little further.

You fish port hope? You fished it once - with a charter. And after he couldn't catch any salmon for you, you went deeper for rainbows.

We caught salmon and steelhead. 2 rainbows. Get your facts straight before opening your big trap!

fishing at port hope at this time of year can be a blast , it is crowded but there are lots of fish to be had. little cleos work great i use a 10 foot noodle rod , and light line,(your reels should had a good drag) if you want to know whats working see ED at the bait shop. drifting a roe bag under a bobber works great also, I prefer to cast spoons at the end of the walk way(east side of the channel). just take a few minutes to see what is working for other anglers, don't be afraid to ask, most fishermen will help you out, there are a few that won't .

i was there last weekend, caught 2 steels & 1 brown. As for rods, you can buy a nice $50 salmon rod from the fishing store there (beside that Rainbow restraurant). They also sell eggs & all the tackle you would need.
A 7 foot rod would also work, make sure your drag is set before hooking the fish, they are like rockets once hooked.
8-10lb line is good to use, and if fishing night time, use mashmellows (smaller ones to cover a salmon hook), light egg sinker, swivel & about 1.5 to 2 feet from the hook.
