Laker go to lure

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

The most successful anglers for lake trout on Charleston are still the old "wiremen." Their lure of choice is the Johnny Green with a perch or sunfish tail attached to the single fixed hook. The tail drapes over the trailing treble. Preferable finish is chrome/copper, but chrome/brass works almost
as well.

John Green of Devil's Lake north of Kingston developed this lure c.1927. It works as well today as it did then. Lucky Strike is the only tackle manufacturer still making them.

Failing that, a copper or silver/copper Williams Wabler.

I'm not familiar with fishing in Ontario, rather in PQ. There you can't use a 'game fish' as bait ie. can't use Perch. Not sure what the regs are there but I'd check them before doing it.

Well guys was out at Le Barons last night to pick-up as few lures that you recomended. I picked-up 2 Williams Woblers ( 1 half and half and the other hammered silver and blue), 2 NK 28 ( 1 green, silevr and blue , 1 blue and silver). 1 blue and silver Littlle Cleo and 1 White and blue J9 and 1 J13.

Can't wait to give these a try next week. I hope that the forecast there giving will change because i think its gonna be a wet one.

Tipping a spoon with a minnow more often than not will destroy its action.

 Hi...Pikeman....This is my first reply since registering to this forum....So mistakes will be! Charelston....Beauty lake and all days there be large! My wife and I just got back from 4 day camping trip. Caught a nice 3 LB Laker on a smelt attached to a chartrusse jig head and a stinger hook in 85 feet water. Screen shows many fish at 75 to 120 ft. They do not hit frequently.
This fish went into the coals in foil 4 hours later and what a treat!
Last three lakers caught there by us...My wife 6 LB on a Sutton 2 3/4"...silver bronze and jigging with it.
The next ...on a small gang troll and lead core with a 5 " gold rapala type plug and the other I think ws a jig usually used for bass.
I am trying to find small smelts with heads attached...frozen if possible...any answers.....And good luck....with your trip....I will be there again next week for 3 days....I wish for one trout a trip for a meal...so may the fish gods be with me too.

 We fish from the Provincial park now in a grumman lite 15' canoe and a minkota 40 motor...even in hefty chops. Runnings Bay in 100-300' water
We are limited to distance with the electric...but in the past with boat and motor we did well in Websters Bay (biggest was 9 LB)and Donaldson Bay and at that time we fished from Charelston with gang troll and 4" live minnows with only a treble hook at back and mono needled thru the minnow.
So good luck if we see you in Runnings Bay June 28 and 29....we will be in an aluminum canoe along the big rock shoreline. Remember "one fish to go" and a nice Jamieson after....that sounds so good.

I will be there from June 22 to 24 only. I hope that the weather will be in our favour. We will definatetly have a few wobbly pops after fishing.
