Ice conditions at muskrat lake

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Hi there,

just to add to the last post; I believe Laker Taker made a typo with the ice thickness. It is only about 6-7 inches of ice, mostly solid, with addition of inconsistant snow cover. It is also important to note that there was lots of water sitting in between the ice and snow, making fishing pretty messy.

We did not see any trucks yet but a few ATVs and snowmachines, although it should be safe to walk to all the popular spots.

Another week will likely help water to freeze and increase the ice thickness.

cheers,

Hey fishin mission. don't know what your buddy was smoken but it must have been awful good to see what he saw.
I checked mountain rd. 1 shack and person walked out. Waterview rd. 1 popup and person walked out.
MacFarlane rd. 2 shacks and maybe 4 wheeler tracks, no trucks or cars. Boat launch in village 3 shacks and again maybe
4 wheeler tracks. far cry from shacks all over and 20 vehicles on the ice. I did walk out about 200 yards and punched a hole.
There is about 11/12 inches of ice and maybe 8/10 inches of snow on top.
well my friend i was there saturday and saw it with my own eyes there were like 20 shacks on mcfarlane road accross the lake there were 7 pop ups and people fishing in the wind at waterview rd the launch in town had shacks and pop ups and everyones parking on the ice at waterview where i punched holes it went from 8" of ice to 4 inches if your checking during the week for sure there wouldnt be the people there are on the weekend. If your going out on the ice you should always check YOURSELF for your own safety and not go by what people post on the board.I just take it with a grain and go look for myself.

If you counted 20 shacks off MacFarlane on Saturday then I can only suggest that next time you remember to start at '1'
As for the ice there was a measured 12 inches out in the middle there on Sunday... about 8-9 of that being black ice and the rest white.
