For trout, I troll with a Flatfish. I've never met anything that works as well. For bass, casting Tube jigs, and spinners and the like are the best for me.

Fishing rivers for steel

1. float fishing
2. bottom bouncing

Bass

1. tossing weedless jigs into heavy cover
2. jigging on the rocks and sholes for smallies

Walleye

trolling with worm harnesses(this has never let me down)

Muskie, Pike

Trolling big plugs or a sucker

I am new to the forum but will jump in on this one. I love a pop-r or similar type bait for smallmouth bass. The anticipation as the ripples disperse after the pop makes my adrenaline start pumping.
