Thanks for clearing that up.
Correct me if I’m wrong, but first and foremost, you’d highly appreciate if tournament executives reach out to the municipality in order to communicate the tournament dates/time in order for recreational anglers and pleasure crafters to be aware of such events and avoid them all together.

Wouldn’t it be rather easier to simply log on to Fish-Hawk, a fishing forum, where all these dates could be readily accessible for all to see? It’s an easy task to tally up the dates once all organizations in the surrounding area are provided.

Since you’ve experienced such frustration and seem devoted to communicating with the municipality, why not come forth and offer your time in organizing such a chart for the Fish-Hawk community?

As for the impact on our fishery, tournaments do their best to avoid such mishaps.
Some of you on here commenting know exactly how the procedures unfold in regards to selecting waters for the bigger tournament series. You also know it’s about revenue, municipality exposure and pleasing sponsors.

Regardless, there will always be a pessimistic crowd.

Facts/suggestions

-Tournament registrations have been decreasing for the past 2 years.
-Total weights per 5 fish are mostly (with exceptions) lower than previous years.
-Setting a maximum number of events per series would help.
-Inform all tournament anglers the proper way to fizz fish.
-Give locals priority to access the ramp on/off come tournament AM and PM (Renegade does).
-Have ReBaits Capture Bins available near ramps for all to use. (look it up, they exist).

I would gladly do that Mr Maverick, that is a great idea. The tournament section on this site is under-utilized in that respect. That would be a bonus for Fish-Hawkers and may bring new people to the site.If RJ and Luke would agree a pinned posts could be put in this section according to month I would not have a problem adding the dates and locations that I find and if anyone knows of some I miss they could pm or add themselves. Could be titled in a way so a google search would bring it up for people not aware of this site. From what I see the only club I cannot find info on is Valley bass. They do not have an active website and their facebook page is out of date

Communicating these times and dates in advance would be great for people who want to avoid or participate as spectator ,volunteer or angler in the open ones

The new FH will have a tab for tournaments that will have a listing of all series, walk ons etc.

Great suggestions! Earlier on you asked for facts.. I still think how it should be a regulation that bass shouldn't be allowed to be held vertically. It's been proven in several scientific studies in Canada in the US. I think it's a much more realistic thing to ask than banning plastics

No offense Lenny but thinking the MNR would even contemplate such a thing is a but much.

One thing with studies is that you can start with a result and build a study to get to that result.

If every Bass held vertically had its jaw broken and could no longer eat we'd have no fish left anywhere due to an epidemic from the last 60 years of Bass Fisherman breaking jaws.....

Would be nice Lenny to do everything possible for the fish. I could see more hooks in hands though and lots of 4 ft drops to hit the bottom of the boat or whatever lies beneath, which may have a greater chance of damaging the fish.

X2

Lenny,

In the grand scheme of things, you might not hold your bass vertically, but how do you weigh them?

In order to relieve stress associated to vertically handling bigger fish, we weigh all our fish regardless of size in a mesh bag that was suggested to us by Ed at Paddletales, the fish lay flat on their side naturally arced.

Not only will it alleviate stress, but chances of you dropping the fish on the bottom of the boat while it dangles from the scales are slim to none.

P.S. these are steps and actions that many tournament anglers do on a regular basis, and highly doubt weekend warriors actually do, just saying.

No offence taken RJ, just stating the facts. I never said anything about the MNR.. I was talking about how tournaments could lower their impact. And in tournaments they weigh their fish in bags which makes it more realistic. I don't think it would make for any more fish dropped- you can still hold the lip, you just have to support the other half of the fish. From the article posted below the "Mike Iaconelli" hold is the worst for the fish. Maverick- that sounds like a great system! Haven't heard of that before. I never bother to weigh my fish. Here's another article about it for those interested. I think there's going to be a big paradigm fish of fish handling in the next few years. : http://www.bassmaster.com/blog/how-not-hold-hawg# .

If I have one i would like to weigh I use a reusable grocery bag. I don,t know if it is a good as the mesh one Maverick is talking about but at least the fish is not hung vertically with a metal hook stuck in it somewhere. Just trying to give an option that everyone may have at their disposal.

The bag is made of some kind of plastic material. I only weigh the big ones so it does not get used very often :) . Its what I have and I I am more comfortable using that than hooking the fish somewhere and hanging it with the chance of it falling on the floor of the boat :)
If the post Maverick gave of the club links etc can be moved to the tourney section that would be great and it wont get lost in the shuffle for now.

Sorry HB but I have to comment on this one!! lol. You mention they wont be hung vertically with metal hooks stuck in them....How do you fish for them? I use metal hooks and pull them up out of the water vertically until I can net it or strong arm it in the boat..lol. Seriously though I loved the idea of those weigh bags. It makes it so easy to weigh them. First time using one was at the MS Bassin tourney and loved them.
Fishing isn't a matter of life and death....
It's much more important.

Maybe you should consider removing the hooks from all your lures to reduce any chance of harming the fish? Just sayin...
