Wolfe Howl-in II pre-fish

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Wolfe Howl-in II pre-fish

Post by slushpuppy »

Bowzog and I headed out to pre-fish Constance Lake for the Wolfe Howl-in II scheduled for next week. Saskie, Saskette and Chester showed and started hauling in the perch. Rex Mundi paid us a visit too but the fish were a bit slow at that time.

We managed quite a few perch, all released. A couple of really fat ones. Here's one from Bowzog:

I caught one too but lost it just out of the hole.

I think we ended up with 4 pike. Three small ones for Bowzog and one big one for me. Bowzog couldn't believe I had a pike. I was fishing with a panfish popper, 2-lb floroice line, genz bug tipped with 3 maggots and a wax worm. That thing hit so hard I knew it was a pike. I got it out of the hole but the line broke just as I was about to reach for it. Dang thing still had my genz bug on its lip. It was the biggest pike there that day, probably around 24 inches. Next time!!

Here's Bowzogs pike, still had its baby teeth as he was able to "lip" it:

Bite slowed right down once it got dark.

A good day out there. Nice and toasty in the trailer, even watched a bit of Olympics on TV. Nice to see Saskie, Saskette, Chester and Rex Mundi out there! Can't wait for next weekend!

That is one SWEET set up you guys have!!! Awesome!

We ended up slaying the perchies alright but it was a loooooonnnnng cold wait for them to turn on.

Once they did it was fast and furious. They definitely wanted a jigging presentation - even when the bite was in full swing the set line 3' from me was ignored, but my jigging line would get a hit within 30sec of being lowered. :D Cool

Nice to see you guys on the ice. See you next weekend 8)

Slushy, Bowzog & Saskie...

Thanks for the "pre fish" report! I am psyched to get up there. I remember things were really slow at Petrie last year when I visited, but it didn't matter...it was still loads of fun.

If I could get just a perch or pannie or two, or better yet a pike or two or any combo of these (!) I would be thrilled. But just having the time and opportunity to socialize is fun enough.

Slushy, too bad about the missed pike. You do always seem to find them. Remember the bit finger, though -- be careful on your reach!

Great pics and I'm so impressed with your set up. Watching the Olympics while fishing AND being cozy and comfortable. Unbelievable!

See you soon... :D

Thanks, Dad, for taking me fishing when I was a kid.

I would suspect no 500 on the TV as the cable run is just a little too long.

I live 2 miles from the lake and will be leaving to watch the 500 at about 1:30. If a few are interested they can drop over to watch the race for a bit to warm up.

It was a great afternoon on the ice! Well, that is thanks to the warmth of the trailer! I thought it was going to be a little warmer on the ice than it turned out to be but I managed to stay nice and toasty hanging out with SlushPuppy & Bowzog in the trailer. I did manage a perch or two but Saskie was the one catching them like crazy. I guess ya actually have to but outside holding the line to catch them! Too cold for me! Yes, I am a whimp and not afraid to admit it!

Looks like another fun day on the ice, too bad about the pike slushpuppy, maybe you can have a contest on the 19th for the person who gets your genz bug back. :D
