Limestone Lake

Post by bobfly »

Had a great Friday PM at Limestone Lake just up from Calabogie to start my holiday week. I had to meet a client at Springtown so no point in wasting a trip up there without wetting a line.

Got into some heavy duty perch and bass at the shoal in front of the bluff. The perch seemed to like my bead head olive nymph and the bass mostly taking an olive woolley bugger. One was large enough to snap off my 3.6 kg tippet. I didn't know perch could get that large in these lakes. One was almost 2# and at least 16" long. Water is starting to get warm now so I try to get those hooks out as quickly as I can.

Also had some dry action near the shore. At one point I had a bass on the humpy and another on the despair nymph at the same time. Out west you are allowed two rods and I would have a dry and a wet going at the same time. And once in awhile I had two fish on two rods at the same time. That is rather tense. But two fish on one rod is a gas.

No sign of rainbows but it is always nice to know that one might hook into one there as they are usually quite large. No hatch.

Cant' wait to get back but the browns are calling at the Grand River and we (wife and GSD's) are heading out tomorrow in the motorhome for plays at Straford and wet boots before and after.
