James Bay Trip

Just got back from my trip up to James Bay, we went 8 hours north of Matagami Quebec and WOW, it was worth the drive I tell ya!!! We made it to Radisson and then went down a rough stone road to a beautiful Lake, after pitching up our camp we wasted no time, within minutes we were into the best Pike and Eye fishing I have ever seen, Id didnt matter what time of day they bit continuously. We went out at night to get the big eyes and they were hitting like crazy!! All together we landed roughly 1500 walleye and about 1000 good pike between the four of us in 8 days, we had 14 eyes over 10 lbs, 2 15 pounders and a most between 3 and 7 pounds. We got 8 pike over 20 pounds 1 was 27 lbs 6 oz "she was a bute" and a whole pile between the 5-15 pound range. All in all this trip was fan-fricken-tastic! I wish I could figure out how to post pics on here because I go a lot of them. And dont worry all the big fish are still swimming around waiting for me to return, we only kept what we ate for the day. I think this fall I will return again.

wow those are BIG numbers.. .

I beleive big time my fater was there 3 year in a row at the corvette river/lakeabout 250km est off radison and they did that kind off fishing......they trow anything at them and they were biting.

but yep it sher is a LONGGGG drive. actualy the same as going down in florida.

its realy fun to read those kind off report.....people have hard time seeing those kind off numbers..but yes...the northern quebec is the place to go for a LOT off fish.

You know,

I live on the Bay. The fishing here on the Moose isn't "that" good, but every summer I speak with or hear of some locals that leave the Moose area to head over to see Cree friends and family on the west side of the Bay. Places most often mentioned are Radisson, Waskaganish and Chissasibi. They're always telling stories of the amazing fishing over there. I think, for them to leave the good fishing we can have here, to go over there, it must be great. The best numbers we have ever caught for walleye in a party of two over 2 1/2 days on a small James Bay river that has limited spots to fish is around 250+/-. I can totally believe that when you get into them up there in these places, that you "really" get into them. Same with the pike, as best 13 hours fishing between two of us was about 160 on an accessible but remote river. This past spring a friend mentioned 3 of them on the Kesagami River with clicker counter in hand had a 503 (might have said 583) walleye day. Just hang the line over the boat, pluck, unhook and repeat, all day.

I'm glad to know places like that exist... even ones off the James Bay highway. Down the road I'll take that drive same as you did, as that's the great thing about the east side of James Bay. Accessibilty by road. Something the west side doesn't have. (will get my fill of the west first)
