Laker action.

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Laker action.

Post by S.M.05 »

With the forecast looking decent for Sunday I decided to get out of town for some fishing. I did a little exploring visiting a couple spec lakes with not much to show by noon except for a couple small stockers.
That’s when my bobber goes down I grab my rod and reel in a nice big chub minnow. This is when the wheel starts turning. I’ve been after my buddy Luke for several weeks now to grab his boat and hit the water for some lakers but it’s always the same old excuses “he’s getting his hair done, fishing for musky, getting his nails done” . Anyways I quickly turn this chub minnow into a cut bait plug throw it in the cooler and head out to get me a laker.
I get to the lake and the water is like glass and not a single boat on it. So with my one piece of bait in hand I quickly set up my rig and drop it down. Finding the thermocline at about 35 feet I begin troll on this new lake.

About 25 minutes out over 50 feet of water I hook into something. It feels decent but not much of a fight its almost to the boat when it decides to let me know it’s a laker and empties a hundred or so feet of 6lb of the ultralight at this point its me vs laker vs lightning rod after several more runs which I swear must have melted every plastic piece in the reel the laker surfaces and I hold my first laker this summer.
Best fish I have ever fought hands down.

I know they get a lot bigger than this one, but at close to 6lbs not a bad size and the meet is pinker than pink. Luke has told me this is from eating a lot of shrimp and sure enough this guy was full of shrimp. Well out of bait and trout in hand, its time to head back to the grind.

Mike...

Not into the hair and nails, but the musky.. Yeah...

Was it "the lake" we are supposed to hit, or another???

Pink meat.. Very nice.

Your cell phone is ringing as we speak. And the boat still isn't here yet.
