Pleasant Park Camping Report

Post by Mr.J. »

For those who missed this event all I can say is you missed a fantastic weekend

Friday was misserable and it was very unpleasant getting going but the moment we arrived at the campground the rain stopped and it was actualy a nice evening. We arrived to see YakAttack putting the final touches to his set up. Later that evening Tsoukan showed up and everything just started to fall into place from there.

Saturday was the big day, big beautiful blue skies and tons of activities to keep the kids happy. My 3 year old son was fishing for the first time and it would be worm in the water, sunfish out of the water, he had a blast and now loves fishing. There was tons of fish for the kids.

The big derby winner of the day was Emily who came with YakAttack, she got a nice snot rocket off of the dock on a worm, and a bit later Tsoukan fished for and caught her rod, nice work. I went for a ride and picked up Big Jim at his place and like the true great guy that he is he came thru for the kids and gave them each a brand new Shimano rod and a package of jigs and grubs, but this was after his demo on proper pile driving techniques

Later that evening we got an interesting demo from some raccoons on how to sneak up on campers and steal their stuff. Amazing they were into everything right under our noses and if it wasn't for their noise of knocking things over we would have never known their were there.

In the morning the only damage done was to pancake mix and a bit of a ripped garbage bag.

Sunday Tsoukan and I headed to Big Jim's house for a few hours of fishing. I think Big Jim may have been a bit intimidated at going head to head with me becasue he pulled the old batteries in the boat is dead trick so we were pretty late getting going in the morning but I didn't care. Getting in even just one cast with a guy who is not only an oustanding fisherman but who also proves over and over again to be such an upstanding guy was all that I needed to make this weekend complete.

If I remember correctly I think the final score was Mr.J. 19 and Big Jim 16...does that sound right?

I know my family had a great time and I had a great time and I am really exhausted right now and as I told Big Jim that I got lucky to spend the weekend with a couple of fish-hawkers who turned out to be solid people and an absolute pleasure to share this weekend with......and I got to drive Big Jim's truck, even if it was to launch him and then park it, now how many people can say that.

To those of you who either sat on the fence and couldn't decide if you wanted to go all I can say is you missed a great weekend.

Thanks to Big Jim, YakAttack and Tsoukan, I'm pretty sure you'd do this again.

Hey J, I am happy you enjoyed my neck of the woods and the kid'zz appeared to be in la-la land so means it was a great time for all.

I stayed out till 4PM with the wife and managed 7 fish...all about 1 1/2 - 2 1/2lbs. That was one of the roughest days ever on that little lake since I moved here four years ago. There wasn't an angler left on the lake by 1:30, just five thousand boats racing from one end to the other.

Happy you all enjoyed the weeknd...I'll have a chat with those coons before you come back...they know where the good stuff is..

Mr J,

Thanks again for organizing the outing -- I had a great time, the kids had a great time. We couldn't have asked for better weather and better people to spend time with and have a lot of laughs.

Emily is really proud of that pike she caught - her first pike - she can't wait to get out fishing again! Josh can't wait to out-do her. I'll post the pic when I get a few minutes tonight.

It was a true pleasure to meet Big Jim and chat with him for a bit. The kids (and I) really appreciated the gifts that he brought. The look on their faces was priceless when they saw the rods and reels and tackle -- they are taking care of their new setups as if they are diamonds.

Until next time....tight lines everyone!
