Buritts Rapids

Post by Mitch24 »

I went out to explore the Rideau along Buritts Rapids with my tube. It was great weather, and the boaters really took advantage of this. SO as many of you can imagine from your own experience, battling 23 foot yachts in a small channel (in a tube) is not very fun, and to add to that, the silt on the bottom of the river was churned up from the motor props. So fishing wasn't all the great for bass and pike (where i was located) but the panfish were going nuts on my dry fly. I almost got an okay sized bass, but it dove into thick, THICK weeds and the hook was released from its mouth, and mangled in the weeds  .

I think next time I get out on this section of the Rideau will be a weekday, and I will be further up stream.

Good to hear you got out in your tube. I try to avoid busy boating areas, most people have never seen a float tube let alone on the lookout for someone in one. Be careful out there and if you're in a busy area wear bright clothing. Hunter orange might be in order.

That's good advice, some of these boats were so big I couldn't see over the bow

Nice, did you go up towards the actual rapids though? Boats can't actually go up there.

I hope you weren't floating in the locks? lmao hahaha just kidding.....

But seriously the river forks, you can either float below the locks, or go up the non-locks channel all the way to the rapids.

i'm going there on saturday possibly in the big Lund boat. and we drive right up to the rapids in the town.....of course we stop right before the bridge but we can get pretty far up there.

We could get all the way to before the bridge in the town, the one with rapids under it. And this is in a 1700 Foot Pro Sport Lund it's a pretty HEFTY BOAT!

I assume you got up the part I'm talking about though? Fishing should have been decent.......strange...

I'll check it out this Saturday and see what it's like and make a report....

Take Care,
