Well there you have it... Todd B. posts a simple link to www.sexyloops.com and after about 20 hrs of reading, and several hours of practice... I now suck in different ways than before... Yes, some of the things that sucked before I have fixed, or improved on at least, but I now have issues where I didn't think there were issues to be had... lol so thanks Todd!

Now more seriously, and honestly, it is a great site and I completely appreciate the link. Todd, it's a great reference site for sure. I can see why you posted it. It really opened my eyes to how complicated casting can be, and how elegant a proper cast should look. I certainly have new everest to climb.

I'm wondering if anyone has specific reference to any fly casting instructors I can use in the Ottawa area. I think I need professional help. lol... but seriously, i think that a course, or some private one-on-one time with an instructor could help loads.

So does anyone have any recommendations?

From what I hear you just missed a fly casting clinic that came to town about 1 month ago in conjunction with the OFS.

I forget the instructor's name, but if I'm not mistaken he is out of the GTA area, I know it's not exactly local, but maybe he is planning on coming back up here in the near future. If he is, I just might be joining you.

Green Drake Outfitters has a clinic - you can get details at their store on Holland.

RG - the casting instructor was Bill Spicer who is also a host on the New Fly Fisher TV program. I took his clinic last year and it was excellent.

Over the last couple of winters, OFS has run Sunday afternoon fly-casting sessions in a local gym (there was a nominal fee to pay for the gym). Another reason to join OFS in Sept. :)

It was Bill Spicer who did the last months casting course. It was 80 or 90$ for about 4 -5 hours of instructional casting. I took it in and was very impressed, he taught different methods of casting from beginner to intermediate. I have to say I learned a lot from him, great instructor, and makes me want to learn more techniques and improve on what i know.

Hookup,

If you can make it out to some of the Tuesday night fishing, we can work on your cast. The websites and videos are great, unfortunately the only real way to fix one's cast is to have someone watch or video tape yourself so you can actually see what you are doing wrong.
