We started a little later. When i woke up at 6am, temps were showing -10. We decided to get on the road for 9am, arriving at the launch for 10am. Not surprisingly, no other trailers.
We made our way out to the smallie grounds, and had our spread out by 11am. The water temps had dropped to 44 degrees....probably the coldest i've ever bass fished. I was starting to doubt how much longer the bass would chase down a crank bait.
We worked the deeper water with only a dead screen to show for it. So many fish that had been lighting up my finder in the deeper water had moved .... I search but couldn't find them.
Eventually I moved into shallower water, and dads rod went off in 24' of water. Finally. As we expected, the size of the bass this time of the year is great, and dad's first was no exception.
We continued on in shallower water, and dad's outside rod went off. Again, another Lake Erie Beauty. Starting to gain some confidence in the shallower water, we worked our way along slowly picking away, getting a fish here and there. All big, mostly Dad. We packed it in around 3pm, as the lake was picking up, winds and snow.
Hope we can still get out for one more trip...but if not, we sure had one helluva fall on Erie, and we are ready for Quinte!
