Using electricity to catch worms

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Using electricity to catch worms

Post by Sportsman95 »

I recently posted a question before about catching your own worms and someone replied that using electricity worked. My question is how do you use electricity to get them out of the ground. If someone could give me step by step instructions, that would be great, thanks.

Man do I regret bringing this up.

I really don't recommend this, especially since you are a 13 year old kid. There is no safe way to do it and you really must know exactly what the risks are. The amount electrical current available is enough to kill or seriously injure you.

Here is a picture of what could happen if you make a mistake, and truthfully you probably will.

If you need to see more pictures to help convince yourself this is a bad idea, do a search on google images for "electrical burn".

Stick to the other suggestions and invest in an led flashlight that has a red filter to catch your dewys.

They can be dangerous if not used properly, no doubt about it. I used this rig back in Nova Scotia growing up for many years. I think I was 10 when I began using it on my own. The set I had was essentially two copper rods ran through two seperate 8" peices of a hockey stick with the center drilled out. The copper rods were saudered directly to each strip of a standard power cord (kind of like two large meat thermometers). All you need to do is stick them in the ground about a 1.5-2ft. apart (DO THIS FIRST, it will minmize alot of the dangers involved), then plug them in. Give it a minute then collect the worms as they squirm to the surface. Unplug them and then remove them from the ground and repeat in another area if needed. Again, it is dangerous, I am not trying to downplay that at all. It is raw power. But again, I have used them countless times and they were common thing back in the day and never heard any horror stories.

Again, I haven't seen or heard tell of them in a long time but I will look around a bit and get back to you. Maybe if there is enough interest I will start my own company and mass-produce them    Just kidding.
