We catch crappies after ice out at Petrie every year, you don't see numbers like you would on the Rideau River but the quality of fish are there...Like Joco said though, you have to wait until the water warms up a bit before you 'find' a good bite. I have fished a lot of water in those backbays and find seem to find them in the same spots every year. Buy lots of tubes and road runners, your practicaly pitching your jigs into cover and pulling them out. I have a new lake or two I will be on once that water temp hits the right mark.
Good luck!
Good luck!
Love those little devils. I'll take a good crappy bite over bass
any day and to eat, they're wonderful. Say, I wonder, if the crappy
are so plentiful on the Rideau River and the Walleyes are so limited
whether there maybe a connection? Think the crappy are eating all
the walleyes fry? Would make a good study.

oh boy... not this debate again.
Carmine, first, let me welcome you to the forum. New stories, opinions and pictures are most welcomed.
I offer this friendly suggestions (and its JUST a suggestion): do a bit of reading on the site, regarding all subjects, before throwing out a comment such as " dont eat it, the water is terrible". There have been probably hundreds, if not thousands of posts on that topic. Sometimes general, or unfounded, comments cause flare ups.
I think the general opinion of most members is that the water in both the Rideau and the big O is good enough to support fish, and eating the odd fish is good.
