Which maps for fishfinder should buy?

Post by igorart7 »

Hi everybody!

I'd like to buy Lowrance HDS-5 fishfinder.

I need to clarify what kind of maps I suppose to buy together to it.

I fish in south Ontario.

Primary areas are Kawartha Lakes, Simcoe, Bay of Quinte, Geogian Bay.

So which maps people are usually buying? Navionics.

There are different variations of Navionics maps:
Navionics Gold
Navionics HotMaps

What would be advantages or disadvantages each of those?

I don't care about pictures of ports.
Accurate depth charts what's what I need.
Correct me if I missing something.

Can I say Navionics Gold is more accurate because map source is government?

There is some kind of standard like X9.
What's that?

Thanks a lot in advance

For the waters you mentioned I would go with the Navionics Gold or Platinum. The Platinum chip will give you 3D mapping and fly through on the new HDS units. Navionics and Lowrance will offer an update this month for the HDS units that will allow the charts to be viewable in the new units.

Navionics Gold
Canada-East - North & East Canada 11XG-2

Navionics Platinum
East Great Lakes 901P+
