You'll have to excuse the saliva on the keys...as I type this I can hear the beautiful sizzle of fresh walleye coming from the kitchen. We went back to our little spot tonight. Caught one keeper walleye almost immediately, then nothing but tiny perch, 1 pike and smallies. We had to quit we were getting too many bass. This time we kept the one walleye for the pan.
I'm glad we got something to show for our night because we also blew a tire on the trailer heading to Arnprior. But since we were almost there we kept slapped the spare on and kept going.
Good luck to all Hawks at the Catfest. We'll probably pop down for the weigh in and maybe hit our spot again - this time a little deeper to try and get the wally's
Mouth of Mississippi R, 6-8ft off a weedbed with bare jigs and minnows/crawlers

There's that sizzle again...unfortunately my walleye hole in the mouth of the Mississippi seems to have been overrun with smallies. We tried a few deeper spots inland and off the points in the Ottawa near the Miss, looking for the walleye, but all we got were smallies. We had a 3 fish rule: if we caught 3 SM without any legal fish we moved. I don't think we were in any one spot more than 20 min. Obviously all the bass went back.
We did get one little walleye and I finally hooked up with a catfish. Aside from moving often to try and find the walleye schools, the only difference was we were tipping our jigs with crawlers (cuz they're cheaper).
Eventually we found our way back to the Mad, where we connected with a keeper walleye and another 3lb catfish. Holy smokes those bastards are strong - my jighead looked like deformed pretezel by the time I pried it loose from those jaws. And what was that someone said about lipping them and feeling "pressure" - yeah...like a shop vise cranked as tight as you can get it.
Anyway - I see my "shore lunch" is ready in the kitchen so I gotta run. Cheers.

Good catch saskie, at least you're gettin' some
I'm jealous, I'd love to have some fresh Wallies in the pan
I was up at Buckham's on the weekend, cutting grass at the cottage
. Sure seems to be a lot of new boats in the area. Man o man! Couldn't believe all the new boats I haven't seen before. And I mean fishing boats!
Anyone know if there was a tourney on or something?
