L/F small pond

Hello,

Does anyone know where I can find a small pond in the East end of Ottawa ? I live in Navan and would like to train my lab on water retrieves.

Tom, not in the east end but I have seen hunters train dogs at Brewer Park pond in the spring...This was a few years ago. Some good musky and pike fishing around Dunbar Bridge if you wanted to try too.

On Milton road, some of those fields up close to Russell road are flooded most of the spring and Fall (half the summer this summer.) Nice and close to home There is one guy just before you come up to Russell rd has a man made pond on his piece of land, they used to use it for training for water skiing but I haven't seen them doing any this summer. It's on the east side of Milton the guy or his wife always has a Re/Max (or other real estate company) vehicle in the driveway.

I think I know the owner of the property you are talking about Wallyboss. It sounds like the owner of LOCKE real estate. I'll try to get in touch with him and see if I can train there,,,only two minutes from my house.

The pond Tip-up is talking about is on Bronson Ave across from Carleton University, and the pond at Brewer Park is pretty weed filled this time of the year. There is an old building/seating stand or some such thing right next to the pond as well.

My suggestion is to contact the Ottawa Valley Hunting Retriever Club. I personally am a member, but do not train with the club. Some of the club members train every thursday night, and the location bounces around depending on who is interested in training that week. ( www.ovhrc.com )

Club membership isn't expensive, but you must be a member of OFAH for insurance purposes.

If you're looking for training advice PM me, and I'll be glad to help, but I train on Private property since East of Ottawa is pretty pondless. The problem with Lockes ponds is they are big featurless water, you may as well throw bumpers into the nation, or the ottawa. If your goal is just to get the dog in the water, there are many spots along the rideau that will work fine.
