I was musky fishing thursaday afternoon with a buddy on the rideau and had a strange day. No sign of fish for the first hour, then my buddy throws on a monstrosity of a jerkbait and has the same musky follow it to the boat 7 times in a row with out a strike (he has never caught one yet so you could imagine his excitement). About an hour later im working a heli-dawg and I have a low 40 inch fish follow and chase my bait in a figure8. I did figure 8s and figure 0's for at least 2 minutes straight varying the depth as well. No joke i probably did 50 figure 8s just to watch the fish follow the entire time then dissapear into the depths. I thought this fish was going to bite but it never did. My arms were sore from figure 8ing so much lol . oh well thats fishing for ya.
Here is a pic of a ski I got lat weekend, small but nice markings
hard work on the figure 8 ands 0 ... without success.
did you try the left to right real quick trick ......
someone posted that a month ago or so.
left - right left - right makes a splash kinda thing on the surface.
well like trophymusky told me go back the next day and that musky might be at the same place feeding.
only then will it hit without hesitation.
but what do i know.
good luck!
Thanks, I didn't try that left to right thing, but i saw it on you tube before and thought it was a fluke, but i guess I will have to try it sometime. There are always different musky on this spot, but I can distinguish this one musky because there were visible scars all over it's back and head. I wasn't able to go out the next day to temp her into biting, but the weather looks not too bad for next week, so here's hoping
Hey Nips, I had a muskie following a figure 8 for several minutes on Stocco Lake a few years back. I couldn't believe it. Reminded me of a cat following a toy on a piece of string. He'd disappear....I'd keep at it.....he would reappear, this went on and on. Finally after not seeing him for a few seconds, I started to lift the lure from the water and blam!!! outta nowhere he smashes the bait. Unfortunately no hookup. I've never caught a ski on the figure 8 yet.
Another time when fishing with Jamie Pistilli (crazyhook) he had a monster muskie following his bulldawg around for like three minutes or more. He was trying everything to get it to hit. He finally walked around to the other side of the boat and the muskie followed. Finally the fish grabbed his lure and went straight down. He fought it for a few minutes, it came to the sufrace, opened it's mouth and the chewed up bulldawg rolled out of it's mouth. Dohhhhhh!
