 no bass = Sad Fish_bowl

Post by fish_bowl »

Hey guys,

It has been a very hard fishing summer for me. Ok, all summers are hard. I need help.

I need some tips on how to use worms when fishing. I have been texas rigging my 10 inch black blue worms, just like everyone else I have been fishing with, and my luck has been very small. My biggest fish for the summer is 3.4 pounds. I'm not sure what to do. So far I am casting in weeds, then I count to ten.. pull the worm up a bit.. let it sink.. count to 10.. I'm not sure if this is what I should do.. and of course.. no one wants to show me because fishing is such a top secret sport.. how is anyone to learn..

anyway.. some people say you should wiggle the worm.. how long should I leave it there.. should i try smaller worms.. and if i do.. do i need to use a less heavy sinker? Oh yes.. and how do I put a crayfish plastic on? are they effective.. how to I pull that In..

I just need some tips.. If anyone out there can help me.

FB,Your techs are good but try to offer a different approach at times.A few ideas are yes try different retrieves, jiggle, let it sit, crawl it back on the bottom try a higher lift for most bass hit on the drop of the offering.Try in shallow water a smaller wieght and try to make as small a splash as possible, different coulors and smaller worms may get them to open up after the weather has made them clam up.Try in pockets of heavy cover and just drop er in a few pops nothin go to the next hole, try the edge of the weed beds aswell.Start shallow then move deeper.Try other plastics aswell, senkos, craws, jig and pig combos which any plastic will be ok for a trailer.

As for the craw rig, texas rig is fine for that too or put it on a big jig (pro model by strike king with the rattle works best for me)But most important try different size, coulor, and retrive and you should capatlize on more fish.

Hope this little blab helps a bit and im sure others will help out too.

Try using smaller worms. 6"-7" ones. 5/16th ounce sinker 2/0 hook and 12lb line.

I don't think anything is gained by using 10 inch worms. Small fish will still hit them. You have to learn what a bass feels like. Best I can say is its weight that moves. Watch your line for bites.

Unless the water is stained I avoid the ones with bright tails. You're right to fish them slow. I could get by 90% of the time with a 6" grape/purple worm.

Fished texas rigged worms for over 30 years and what worked then works now.

BTW.where are you fishing them, what lake?

HEY GANMAN,

WE HAVE BEEN FISHING IN LOWER BEVERLY. I'M FROM NORTHERN ONTARIO, SO WE FIGURED IF WE GOT TO LEARN A LAKE AND STICK WITH IT FOR NOW WE WOULD HAVE A LITTLE MORE SUCCESS. WE TRIED GRAHAM LAKE LAST WEEK WITH LITTLE TO NO RESULTS. I LIKE LYNHURST LAKE.. I GOT QUITE A FEW FISH THERE BACK WHEN BASS SEASON OPENED.

(SORRY FOR THE CAPS.. NEED THEM FOR A PROGRAM AT WORK)

I THINK I WILL GET A FEW SMALLER SIZE WORMS TONIGHT. I AM HAPPY YOU SAID WHAT SIZE SINKER. I'M STILL LEARNING AND I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT SIZE TO USE.

I HAVE 7 INCH PURPLE GULP MINOWS (I CALL THEM TORPEDO WORMS..) AND I TRIED USING THEM BUT I FIND THEY REALLY FALL IN THE WATER FAST. HAVE YOU TRIED GULP? I HAD A LOT OF BITES WITH A YELLOW 3 INCH ONE. BUT MOSTLY ROCK BASS.. LOL

WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY THE WEIGHT MOVES?

I THINK YOU ARE RIGHT ABOUT THE SMALLER WORMS.. I THINK ONCE I KNOW THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN WEEDS AND FISH BITTING IT WILL BE A LOT EASIER TO GET THE FISH. :)

I KNOW I SOUND PATHETIC.

THANK YOU FOR THE ADVICE

What Bacon says is correct also. Especially for shallower bass (exceptions the Senko which unweighted can be fished deep or shallow).

The tackle I alludied to was more for deeper weedlines in 5-20 ft of water. Thats why i asked the lake. Beverley is quite clear and you get those nice deep weedlines there.
