South Ben tip ups (orange ones with flag)
Anyone have these? Got them on sale, opened the bag, now I have no idea how they're supposed to be set up

I bought on of those tip-ups earlier in the year and it broke a few weeks after. I have seen people use them in two different ways but I think the proper method is to have the reel down below the hole and make it so when the reel is turned the flag at the top, which is bent over and held by a clip, is released. Mine broke as I didn't clear the ice away often enough and it was very cold causing the plastic to just crack on the reel. I bought one the Frabill thermal one and I like it a lot.

I'v got a few and I'm gonna try modifying them for the Spring FH trip.
I'm hoping the dock will produce a few night time cats and ling, so I'm put glow sticks on the flags and modify them to be positioned on the dock.
Hopefully we can see the dock from the fire pit and when a fish fires a glow stick...there'll be a scamble!
(i know you can just use a rod, but I wanna play.

Big Fish is right about the setup. And you really do have to be diligent in clearing the hole of ice buildup. I used to have one of these and when the flag went one time I yanked it straight up only to have the 1/4" of ice knock the spool clean off and back down to the bottom.
Here's the correct setup:

I've also seen this, maybe people think submerging the spool will cause it to freeze (if its a quality tipup with subzero grease it won't)
