Pike Fishing April 17th

Post by BBRich »

Well we fished one of our favourite pike holes today for quite a while. Sleded and I launched the Bass Hound and away we went chucking jerkbaits. We could not get a hit on them, so eventually Sleded switched to a spinnerbait. Almost immediately after casting near a gravel hump he hooked into a small pike but it spit the hook right at the boat. So no pic of that one. Well after several more follow-ups and short strikes on the spinnerbaits we decided to try a tactic that Salmon told us about involving live minnows. It paid off! Eric scored this little guy:

Then as time wore on the live bait tactics stopped producing anything so we started chucking lures again. I decided to try my favourite "Old Faithful" pike jerkbait and almost instantly it paid off! The way this one was fighting I thought it was gonna be huge! But she came up just about a 24 incher and Sleded got her in the net just as the hook popped out! Here she is:

Well after that there was a few more follow-ups but that was it. All in all, not too great but also definitely not too bad for a day on the water. Would have been nice to catch a few more of those followers though!
