Rideau River....ummm...Report - July 16

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Rideau River....ummm...Report - July 16

Post by JustinHoffman »

Hello All,

Deceided to jump in the boat with my Dad yesterday, and fish a stretch of the Rideau. The heat was bordering on insane out on the lake, and the sweat sure was dripping.
After Thursday's string of luck, I thought we might be in for a duplicate type of day. Not so fast, Stan.
The slop moves around a lot on this stretch of the river, and what is there one day, is often gone the next. Also, my stretch of tremendous docks and moored boats were full of activity, or missing the boats altogether, so that put a damper on the action. Needless to say, I was skunked in the bass department. (first time that's happened in a long, long time) I did get one scrawny little pike....
My old man, on the other hand, landed a decent fish from some slop on a flipping jig. What rubs salt in the wounds even more is the fact he was nursing a fairly decent hangover from being out at the pub celebrating the night before. (If anyone should of been on their game, it should of been me..) LOL
Saying that, its a pretty good feeling to see how excited he gets when he lands one. I guess you could say I was the guide for the day.

So, here is the only pic of the day...

There's always next time...

Good Fishing,
Justin

Justin;

Don't you find that excellent days tend to run in groups of 1 ?

Two of us olfarts (my buddy just recouping for a bout of surgery) went down to one of the locks last night, fished from shore, and could do no wrong. His reward, I said, for being a brave patient.

I had been there the night before and caught nada.

Go figure

Good fishin:

Jigs.

Me and Mick went out on the Ottawa Saturday evening and couldn't get a bass to bite. I had just come off a tremendous string of successful outings that included some rather big bass - thought I had it all figgered out - then SLAP! The last two outings it has been difficult to buy a bite!

Nice fish yer fodder caught!

That's a really nice bass for your Dad, JH. Sorry about your skunking, but it's kind of reassuring to know even bass aces like you can get burned once in a while!! Your girlfriend would have whipped both of you... 8)

Nice to hear from ya.

W.
Thanks, Dad, for taking me fishing when I was a kid.
