If you're going to use a spring scale, you need to calibrate it with something; ie a 5 lb cast iron weight or something that you KNOW weighs an exact or close to exact amount.
Here is a pic of a 32" cat I caught last year and it was I believe 9.6 lbs. Nice fish and great fight I'll bet either way.

Yep, right around the green can by Ram Island last summer. Don't think you can see it in the pic but it looked like this one came a little too close to a boat prop with it's tail. Must have thought he was a musky and tried to attack a prop
