As for the skunk problem. When I lived in Brampton, we had one try to make a home under the back deck which only stood 1ft of the ground. You could have a party on the deck and it wouldn't bother you (you could see it if you peered between the deck boards). They usually wont spray in their own home. The concern was one of the kids getting it if they went out and the skunk was out of hiding.
My father in-law had suggested spraying Ammonia Bleach (the strong stuff) under the deck . (just watch your eyes and nose). He used to use it all the time when he was a commercial beekeeper , they loved to live under the hives (not as effective as a 12awg but didn't put holes in the hives).
Give it a real good dose, when the coast was clear , it left and never came back (unless it was the white cat under the neighbors deck
