Palmerson Lake Weekend!

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Nice Lakers, and keep those reports coming, I need something to keep me grounded before softwater starts.

As for the skunk problem. When I lived in Brampton, we had one try to make a home under the back deck which only stood 1ft of the ground. You could have a party on the deck and it wouldn't bother you (you could see it if you peered between the deck boards). They usually wont spray in their own home. The concern was one of the kids getting it if they went out and the skunk was out of hiding.

My father in-law had suggested spraying Ammonia Bleach (the strong stuff) under the deck . (just watch your eyes and nose). He used to use it all the time when he was a commercial beekeeper , they loved to live under the hives (not as effective as a 12awg but didn't put holes in the hives).

Give it a real good dose, when the coast was clear , it left and never came back (unless it was the white cat under the neighbors deck
 )

I like the suggestions I am getting here but I have to tell Coyote that I threw a bunch of mothballs under there in the fall but I think they just collected them and used them to keep the bugs out of there space. I also want to try and make it very unconfortable for the little bounder so I will take Dartee's suggestion and flood under there with water and see if that works. I don't know about the ammonia though it might smell worse then the skunk. I actually put a radio in the shed and turned it on full blast. I am hoping this will disturb his sleeping in the day and he will move out of there. So far it has been a week and I am pretty sure its still there. Maybe I should play some of that rap stuff that I hear blaring out of some of those gansters cars that I pass on the road or get me one of those sub-woofers. I am pretty sure he has sprayed close by because some of the odour is starting to come through the house. Ahhhhhhh.

The ammonia may stink worse the the skunk for a short time. But it wont smell every time it rains. The odor of skunk that close will hang for a long time.
Good luck..

Supposedly, if you "remain calm" you can successfully and humanely trap the skunk. Remain calm...now that would be a challenge with a skunk in a cage that needed to be moved.

This same site mentions the ammonia method Dartee talks about. Also cayenne pepper liberally sprinkled about might help.

And I thought a woodpecker was trouble.

Hey Hitman Hill. Great report and always a pleasure to fish with you and tenline. I finally got registered on fish-hawk after being an observer for over 5 years. Can hardly wait to get in your new ride with ya. TTFN

I hate to say it but it's about time the MNR starts putting restrictions on ice fishing trout lakes. The lakes get hammered during the winter and it's starting to show. Trout fishing through the ice in Quebec is not allowed at all and that is why you can find lakes within an hour or 2 drive from Ottawa that produce nice sized trout and good quantity during a weekend camping trip. I've been fishing the Ompah/Plevna district for over 25yrs and the catches of fish are no where close to what it used to be.

Hey Trouthunter, I hear ya, but is there teally a whole of people out there fishing for lakers in the summer? Just not sure with all the other available species that people would be targeting the lakers. Just curious if this is the main fish being targeted during the summer months?

Hitman, I'm not talking about soft (open) water fishing for trout. I was making a comment regarding hard (ice) water fishing. The lakes get hit hard during the winter season with 2 lines per/person ...Many, many , many years ago we used to be able to ice fish Lake trout in areas South of HWY#7 (Charleston Lake, Buck Lake, Sharbot Lake..etc..) and the MNR shut it down due to the amount of fish that were taken out of the lake during the winter months. Since then, the open water fishing has recovered and is awesome!......just my 2 cents!!
