Shirley's Bay

Shirley's Bay

Post by Bender »

Hey all, my six year old son wants me to take him ice fishing this weekend, so we thought about heading out to Shirley's Bay on Sunday after watching the Pink Panther at the theatre.
We hope to be out there around 3:30 for the early evening bite, he wants to catch a walleye :D Is anyone from here going to be there who could possibly point us in the right direction and maybe even punch a couple of holes for us? The holes are more important than direction since I have no auger.
As well does anyone know if the ice is thick enough to drive my truck out on it?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, he's never been ice fishing and I only have a couple of times so I hope this works out well for him.

Good Day Bender, I have fished out at Shirley's Bay before with very little luck but I am sure there will be someone here from this site that will be able to help you out. Sunday sounds like it will be a pretty nice day weather wise and if the ice is anything like it was up on Calabogie Lake last week you should encounter anywhere from 20 to 30 inches of ice. Driving out shouldn't be a problem if the snow hasn't drifted across the Bay. Wish I could help you out because if the fish are biting it will be a thrill for your son. I usually go out with some other friends who actually moved there ice hut off the Bay this year because of such slim picking last year. You never know though this just might be the weekend that will produce the most. Good Luck!!!

Be careful of the ramp on to the bay. It can have lots of deep ruts, and you can get hung up if you aren't careful. Take care and good luck.

hello bender,

Unless you are ONLY looking for walleye i'd reccomend constance lake. You are almost guaranteed some perch and small pike. The pike give a great scrap under the ice. There will be some people there to punch holes.

good luck,

mikey
