Will the damage be the same from an OOS fish or one in season? The reason it is illegal is because fish are supossed to be protected during the spawn. We've been dealing with the same question about taking pictures with a conservation licence.banjo wrote:TM- If you consider taking a photo of an OOS fish to be illegal... because it should be "immediately released" instead...
The same goes for photographing an undersized musky. It too should be 'immediately released"... same terms are used, therefore same interpretation. Any pictures of an Ottawa River musky under 54" should illegal too, right?

Take a OOS picture or not take is picture is a personal decision...Do what you want as no one but yourself can make that decision (I choose not too!).
Posting an OOS picture and boasting of OOS catches is the problem!...There is NO WAY to tell that you weren't poaching other than your word....Plain and simple!

Can you prove that this fish was targetted or not!!!
Does posting the picture indicate this one way or another???
I am sorry but the country I live, a person is innocent until proven guilty.
So unless you got proof that the fish was targetted, just let it go...
If you don't want to see pictures, then don't look at it!!!
Plain and simple...

So your are saying FH.net should promote OOS of pictures and catches by allowing people to post OOS pictures...Not a nice image!Duck Gunner wrote:

Why does it always happen when these issues are brought up somebody starts in with "these discussions are ruining this board"
I have a suggestion: Listen to your own words......
If you don't like......don't read. If you just want to read reports then stay out of threads like this.
Yet like always these kind of threads are always the most popular. Go figure

In all seriousness guys. I know this issue continues to bug the same 10 guys relentlessly.....and others I'm sure.
I just don't know what we can do about it.
I'm a bit disapointed with some of the comments toward the site, but I understand that those comments are stemmimg from your frustration and your stance with this issue.
I'm open to suggestions as to how we can find some middle ground here.

Yeah....I do have to read it all...
I don't know what we do about it.....I truly think the problem is with OOS bass only.....bass guys love their bass...what can I say?....and that's fine....but it's the same thing every year.....it will never change.....whether a few pics are posted or not.....

Welllll...
"How do they know the images are out of season? 95% of all photos taken by professional photographers are on digital mediums so the date can be set to anything. I think is a PR move by In-Fisherman and when it comes to selling mags they will never check to see if the image of a fish is in or out of season."
Maybe Michael's post could have read that:
In-Fisherman's policy is to not knowingly publish photos of OOS fish. Sure- someone could probably trick them into publishing an illegal fish photo, just as someone here could post photos of their May-caught largemouth, muskie, or whatever in July.
But the difference is they have a policy in place. This board does not, and possibly should.
And I don't believe we are talking about the "bass guys" only. I'm probably one of those "bass guys", despite the fact I love chasing crappie, walleye, pike, etc. As a "bass guy", I hate seeing photos of OOS muskies and other species just as much as I hate seeing photos of OOS bass.

i personally will be targeting BASS one week from today! i hope to get 6 nice keepers and if i do i will post the pics of me eating them when i am back.
did that get anyone blood boiling?!
well where i am going bass season is always OPEN. so how do you stop someone from posting OOS pics when the season isn't the same for everyone?!
all someone has to do is say they were in division 19 when they caught them and it's totally legal. same goes for a lot of other species as well. it just doesn't make sense to ban it. what region are you gonna ban it for if you do? it's absolutely silly.
some people's morals are different. i'm sure some will think that i'm am idiot for saying i will keep the 6 bass that i catch (if i catch any) when i go away. that's their opinion. and you know what opinions and a certain part of the human anatomy have in common...
it will be IMPOSSIBLE to police such a thing on a board. what's OOS for one guy is IN SEASON for another.
just my 2 cents.

I could go back 2 years worth of posts.....and this issue 99.9% of the time is bass related.....yes we had one OOS muskie posted this spring.....and it barely got a ripple....
So everyone who enjoyed Nighttroller, Bacon and Cman's sturgeon photos.....kiss em goodbye!....

And to me....that's a shame.....

Taking pictures of OOS fish is illegal, taking pictures of undersized or slot fish during the season is legal. We set a 54 inch limit so that people cannot harvest 52 inch fish not to stop them from taking pictures of them.RJ wrote: So.....illegal fish is an illegal fish is an illegal fish....expect when you don't want it to be?....illegal is illegal no?

If little Timmy accidently caught an OOS fish and takes a picture the CO will most likely let it go but a knowledgeble angler won't get away with it.

First of all I am surprized you did not delete my post from today it was the same as last nights.Markus wrote: I'm open to suggestions as to how we can find some middle ground here.
There is but one solution and that is not to support illegal activities.
If a guy came on here and posted a picture of his walleye stringer with 8 fish on it, after posting that he was fishing alone. Would you support that illegal activity the same as you support OOS pictures?
RJ said it " an illegal activity is an illegal activity is an illegal activity "
