bass fishing in smithfalls area

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

bass fishing in smithfalls area

Post by hawgslayer »

Hi guys,I am not from the area but I enjoy getting up there for 3 or 4 days of fishing once a year.In the past we have fished rideau ferry aera, big rideau, christie and newboro have done well on all. We are looking for new lake to try this year in the area as we stay in hotel in smithfalls. Was wondering what opinicon lake was like?We are looking for a lake with deep weeds/weed lines for dunking jigs and worms. Any suggestions of different lakes to try around second week of july? Thanks for your help.

Yes it is that type of lake with deep coontail beds. You'd be able to find places closer to stay. Opinicon is about 30 minutes from the Smiths Falls. Not too sure about the ramp situation there anymore.

Try Mississippi lake. Great lake for largies and smallies. Lots of cover if your a slop man by mid summer and is only 25min from Smiths Falls. Also try anywhere on the Rideau system.

Plunking and Dunking

If you like Plunking and Dunking deep weed lines. Give Cranberry and Dog Lake a try.

FF,
We can do a little dunking on the Upper Rideau for sure. If you never done it before FF you better "duck tape" the rod to your hand. That's another place to try Hawgslayer!
