AC Delco battery question

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

AC Delco battery question

Post by Mr.J. »

I have an AC Delco battery for my trolling motor. On the battery is a small legend which states

Green = 70 –100 %
Black = 50 – 70 %
Red = Charge battery

Well my first time out with the new boat ad I really put the battery thru its paces, I worked it really hard. So I pulled her out, took her home and charged her up.

It was not until after I had charged it that I saw the legend with the colors so I cannot comment on what color was displayed prior to charging. Charging time was about 1 hour.

The display on the charger (which is only 2 years old) showed fully charged, however the light on the battery showed black. The multi meter showed 13.? Volts DC so the battery should be nicely charged. Well I put the battery back into the boat and put it thru even more of a work out than last time. Approximately 3 hours of steady, almost non-stop use which includes actually trolling at a good pace, ¾ wide open speed.

Well I want to go out this weekend so I figured I had better charge it back up so I opened the lid and now the light is a nice green color.

Does anyone own a similar battery and can tell me what the heck is going on? It appears that the colors, black and green, are now reversed, or are they? Do these green lights actually work or are they just a feature that really shouldn’t be followed?

Thanks.

You do not mention what kind of trolling motor, how strong a unit you have nor if it has the maximiser feature. I am guessing that your battery is sstill very good. SorryI have no idea about your color coding. i've always been told to keep the battery topped up at all times ( charge at the end ot the day or if you will not be using it for a while. You've been trolling "Have you caught any fish" Good luck. 23 days to Bass fishin
