Wow.

Just plain wow. I cant imagine how hard they must have fought. What kind of gear are you fighting those guys on - big 8 foot rods with penn level wind reels like the ocean tackle? I caught a cat in the Ottawa here a few weekends back that was just around 7 pounds and he really put my 7 foot med/hvy baitcaster to the test. The power of those fish must be wild..

Awesome pics Markus, looks like you had a nice visit to Winnipeg. They make my Westmeath cats look like babies!

We were using a 7' Heavy Rhino Rods with the oversized spinning reels spooled with 14lb test.

I can't describe the power of these fish...plu you have to fight them up a strong current. Massive headshakes and holding power. I can't tell ya how many times I looked at Kim and said "I can't move him"! :lol:

Sure do Wolfe and I love that action! Hailee and Spencer are in a kids Rock Bass Derby this weekend...so we'll be rock bass'n it on Sunday! :P

WOW! Markus. Those are definately some nice cats. How much did you pay for the flight and guide service?

Maybe you should make your own show Markus :)

I'm sure they must have fought really nice in that deep water and current.

What did you use for bait?

I have always wanted to fish the Red river for cats. The Red river also has a great walleye fishery with some trophy walleye. I believe Sturgeon too.

JohnnyBass, I had to go to Winnipeg to visit a customer...I just planned a little fishing in too.

The water was only about 12-15 feet deep, but it was chocholate milk. The current was strong though.

As for bait, I'm gonna leave that out. Kim runs a business and his bait is his to talk about. I'd feel like I was doing him a dis-service if I broadcasted that without his consent. He knows his baits though. It was a classic scenerio of 1 boat pounding them and then onlookers moving in and anchoring near by. :lol: Made no difference, they didn't have what we had....getting closer just made the view all that more painful for them. :lol:

Pieter, your dad has a few cat spots that I think can top these fish. I think we're gonna try them soon and try to win the local cat derby. :wink: :P
