So what's the rule on wading the waters.....you're not on the land.....same with coming in by boat after/before "hours"....anyone with any experience??
I know they say that the water is an extension of the land during the winter when it's solid but what about the summer/fall months?

Canadian Bacon,
I'd be happy if development at Petrie stopped now. I think what the city has done is just fine - allowing a place for families to go relax (even if this development is being done at a slight cost to the environment).
What I fear is that the development is far from over. With a condo tower already being pre-sold on the Petrie, it is only a question of a few years before the whole area becomes over developed (yet again, in Ottawa).
How long until the Petrie area has a few condo towers, executive bungalows, strip mall, gas station, Tim's, etc... I venture a guess of maybe another 10 years at best. For a guy like me that sucks as I will not be able to show my kids the Petrie island of my childhood.

Canadian Bacon,
I completly agree with you, Petrie is definitly heading the way of Rockland....
I wonder if there is still dicussion of building a bridge across to Quebec at the Cumberland ferry. I know there has been talk of this for years, but it looks like it's not going to happen any time soon..

Graembo, no body owns the water or the river bed, property owners or the City for this manner only own to the high water line on any navigable waterway.
To many home owners around here think they own the beach in front of there house, well they dont
So long as i don't pass the high water line or cross onto their property I am legal to be there.
And yes I do make a habit of doing so to a couple of snooty home owners down here, that beach was there long before they built there house.

Petrie rules
One of the things the city could do is to exempt fishermen (fisherpeople???) from the 9:00 p.m. closure. The by-law does state that the by-law coordinator or director has that power. Given that the ban is only at the North end of the causeway, however, it won't overly affect fishermen at the culverts or across from the bait shop, although it does cause a problem as far as parking, because you pretty well have to park on the North side of the causeway. DO those hours apply to winter as well?
yeah it doesn't take a lot of people to ruin it for everyone else, then it seems that the police and by-law officers will not give any slack to fisher persons because if they do it for one then they have to do it for everyone.people don't seem to give a s@#%& when it does not effect them directly, but its the ones that use petrie over and over for fishing or just relaxing at the beach that have to put up with stiff laws while the badasses move on to another place, why are some people hell bent on destroying things??????
