Well after CCb had left, I ended up catching 3 cats.

I also lost a little guy who borke off my hook, while CCB was there. :P

Now to calm an eel down, you simply take a pair of pliers and grab the hook. while you hold it by the hook grab the eel in front of the anal vent, now slide your hand back to just behind the vent. you should be holding it just behind the vent, about where the weed is in the pic above, put a little presure on your grip and lift. From what I was told as a kid, this is where their main nerve system is. By applying slight pressure you relax the fish. I don't know how true it is, but it works 99% of the time.
If that don't work for you then just lip them like a bass.

HA! The joke is on you, FF!

I knew all along it was a Softspined sturgeon. I was just going along with your "eel" identification because I was feeling sorry for you for having your 15 pounder break off 10 feet from the dock.

Unlike eels, Softies (as they're commonly known in this area) lie limp as a wet towel when removed from the water.

There really was no need for you to insert your finger in it's anus at all!

I think this post covers everything. It has 2 fishing reports, friendly ribbing, good humor, and even a little tip on how to handle an eel.
