Salmon runs
I was wondering, when would salmon be running is the east tribs. I wanted to catch some before school started again. Also, should salmon be in the Notty by the first weekend of August?

generally you can start to assume that salmon will be in the rivers by the last week of August. The eastern tribs are a lower elevation then the western tribs of Lake O and tend to get salmon staging and entering the rivers a bit earlier. Weather will play the largest role. It appears that Lake O is undergoing a temp inversion currently, and if the current cooler nights prevail I would wait for the first decent rain and off you go.
The Notty will get its run starting in a few weeks but as of late the salmon population in GB has been under some severe stress with dissapearing bait fish, a huge fish now is 12 lb.

We typically fish the Oshawa creek for salmon. Way up north of the 401. It seems fairly consistent each year that they run in the last weeks of Sept, just before season closes.
They do stage earlier down in the southern part of the river but the number of fishermen/fisherwoman to shoreline ratio is too high for my liking.
Good luck
