Dad Takes Me Trouting. Report. (pics)

Post by Moosebunk »

... from Summer's perspective....

Dad thought he was getting me up early. The little hand was pointing at the 9 but I'd been awake waiting for the sleepy head since the little hand was pointing at the 6 and the big hand the 3. While he showered I went downstairs and left the Cheerios out on the counter, turned on the TV, pressed 555 on the "'mote" and watched some Scooby Doo. Dad finally came down, went into the kitchen, put my Cheerios away and told me he was cooking up some french toast and bacon for breakfast. "Summer" he said, "I'm gonna make ya a big breakfast today cause you're gonna need the energy," well, I had the energy I thought, it was him that was the slow poke.

After breakfast we hopped on our bikes and peddalled down to the docks where the taxi boats are. Dad said I have to pay for the ride today, then him and the taxi guy laughed and away we went in the boat to Moosonee. The ride was fast and it was warm outside yet silly dad made me wear my sweater. In Moosonee dad gave the taxi man two shiny moneys and a piece of paper money, the paper one was the same as I get on fridays for keeping my room clean and emptying the garbage. We got on our bikes and went for a long ride through town to where dad works and when we got there dad then got a truck. We were going fishing. :D

The first spot dad woudn't let me fish. Dad said, "Summer, I'll see if there's any big ones in here first cause I don't want a fish to pull you in the water." My dad's a big liar. The spot had a lot of bugs in the air and weeds in the water, but no fish, so we left. :?

The next spot looked nice. Where dad parked I had to climb down through a prickly bush to get out of the truck. It sucked. He told me to hurry up and said the prickles only tickles. :x We walked awhile past some rock piles and a big pond dad called a quarry, then we came to a spot where there was no water. Dad wasn't happy, he said a word I'm not allowed to say, then took a picture of me. Where I'm standing dad told me the water was sometimes over my head. Here's my picture of me where the water wasn't. :)

Image

Back to the truck dad took off driving fast. He drove all the way back to town and then right through it to the other side. He kept looking all over the place and driving in circles, stopping now and then and making me wait in the truck while he went down to the river to check stuff, he did this alot. Finally he let me out and we walked down to the water. The path ended on a big hill and he had to help lift me down in two spots. When we got the bottom it was muddy and buggy. It sucked. Dad said he was just gonna cast a minute or so to see if there was any fish. We didn't stay long. Dad had to lift me back up the hill in two places, and at the top he played with his camera when we were back on the path. :?: I was getting hungry and the flowers tasted like sugar.

Image

After dad put the camera away and on the way back to the truck dad stopped and said one of those words again that I'm not allowed to say. He told me not to repeat that word and said that he just stepped in bear poop, but dad didn't say poop, he said another word I can't say.

Off to the restaurant for lunch we went. It was great. I had a grilled cheese and apple juice, and dad had a "Rooben" and apple juice and then half my apple juice too. The cook guy was nice and brought me chocolate ice cream too. I had to eat that fast because dad woudn't quit stealing some. Dad get's me mad sometimes, but he was happy, and when we left he said the cook bought our lunch. I like that cook, he was nice. :D

Back to where dad works we dropped off the truck and started walking on the train tracks to a path that led off into the bush. Finally there dad let me fish at a spot. It was easy, all I did was tip toe up to a spot and let the rope with the worm on it fall in the water. Yeah, I got a fish. Dad was excited and me too, he took a picture and let the fish go becasue it was small he said. Dad said there's another one in the water and I don't know how he knew that but I put the worm in again and caught a bigger fish. It was fun, I got blood on my hands and everything.

Image

No more fish there dad and I left. We walked a very very very very long way. Every now and then dad would get far ahead of me and I'd have to run to catch up. Dad get's me so mad sometimes. I ran ahead though sometimes too, and a few times I hid and tried to scare him. It was fun, but dad doesn't scare very easy cause he's a manly man he says.
Dad took a picture of my hiding spot one time, here it is so look at it close and try and see me.

The end of the path came. Dad made me sit around and be really quiet for awhile. He was casting far down the river. Three times he had a big fish on his hook in a row but it got off every time when it came close to shore. Dad whispered words everytime it got off, but I can't whisper those words because I'm not allowed. A long time went by, if I had of had a clock I'd probably say the little hand went all the way around 10 times. Dad and I left. He caught some fish but they were small.

On the way home dad made me walk in the hardest places. Branches, thorns, spider webs, broken trees and grass all tried to push me over. Dad wouldn't wait up half the time, he kept saying we gotta get one more fish for the fry pan little buddy. In one spot, dad got his fish that he wanted and now we had two, but the other one he put under leaves and a stick back near where we caught it. He hid it really well because he said the guys over on the other side of the river that were drinking beer and wine might come and try and take it when they saw me catch it. And, ya know what else dad did? He put a plastic fork on the path he found and pointed it to where our fish was. On the way home I found the fork on the path, dad walked right by it and didn't see it, he's such a goof. I found the fish he hid  and it was there where he wanted to take pictures of me with the fish. I love dad, it was fun. :D

Dad caught 5 fish and I caught 2. When we got back to where dad works to get our bikes Dr. Gill the nice lady and a man came over to see my fish. Dad put the fish on a little string and made me carry it 100 miles home. Dr. Gill liked my fish. I told her I caught the biggest one and that hurt dad's feelings I think because he said I didn't. He started talking about inches and stupid stuff after that, but I know I got the big fish. Dad's such a liar and he makes me so mad sometimes, but I love him and I'm glad I went fishing. Fishing's fun. :D

The END.

Betcha the "manly man" wanted to CRY, right Summer? 8)

Seriously, you two, that was the best report. Loved the little kid's perspective, Moosebunk. Very, very cute and amusing!

Excellent pics. Gorgeous scenery, and even prettier little girl.

Now, about those naughty words....weren't we just discussing sheltering the kids a wee bit?

W.
Thanks, Dad, for taking me fishing when I was a kid.
