Ottawa River Bite is Red Hot

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Saskie

Saskie-

Sorry. I meant a record muskie. No doubt a record bass would be worth big $$. But a record muskie? Who knows.

RJ-

It's hard NOT to catch muskies in that section of the Rideau. We landed three and just about everyone we talked to tangled with some. Probably the best numbers area in eastern Ontario.

The fish we caught were (est.) 1 @ 12-14 pounds and 2 at 16- 18 lbs. All were horsed to the boat within a minute of being hooked and water- released. 1 ounce jig/craw combo on 12 pound Trilene XT was the hot combo.

We also got a couple of walleye- the best approx. 8 pounds- about the same weight as the 5 bass we weighed in. :(

Finally a Picture

Post by Seaweed »

I finally got a picture of the fish.

Go figure why it took so long to get it to me ... but hey just glad to finally have evidence of the memory.

Image

Ok so she doesn't look that big right... but beside me nothing looks big. Although the guy bowing in front of me is obviously impressed with my ability to catch large fish. I have no idea what he was doing so don't ask.

I think that now that I just reread all the input this discussion started I must admit that fish do look a lot bigger in the water and feel big during the fight for sure. This fish was the best fight of my life. She didn't want to surrender... that made her bigger for sure... and working her back to fitness in the water... after the fight... for that length of time and then watching her return to the depths.... well that made it all the more impressive.

I think if I ever hook in to that monster that swims near there.... well that will test my heart for sure.
