My Angling Idol Finale Experience.....

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

My Angling Idol Finale Experience.....

Post by RJ »

Well folks the time has come and gone... :?

I thought I'd share my past week and a half or so.....just to give ya an idea how brutal it's been...

I made a conscious decision that a good muskie (over 40 inches) would be tough to beat.....so that was my goal....

Its started on the 28th of Sept....Gordo and I prefished Mississippi Lake on the 29th....I picked up a 4 pound plus largie and returned her quickly in hope of not disturbing her too bad for Saturday....as she swam away I said to Gordo...."I probably should have snapped a pic of that one".... ..Shimano hat lay in the storage compartment the whole time.... :x

Bassin for Bucks produced a 3 pounder for me.....no pic....I never thought a bass would win it anyways.....it never won a round thru the initial voting.....I didn't expect that to change....

Gordo and I fished Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday night in summer like conditions....blue bird skies and high temps...water temps jumped 4 degrees overnight one day.... We had a swipe boatside one night.....and one lost at the net another night.....spirits were low by Friday I'll tell ya..... :( ...One thing I came across one night in the Meat Boat.....which will explain alot of my luck....I reemed him.....and chucked it overboard....

Image

Then in slides a major cold front.... :x ....tough fishing ahead for sure....

Saturday we fished it hard......pickin up 3 muskies.....no size..... :x

Here's Gordo's..

The colours on this juvenile fish were incredible....

Image

Image

I picked up this one....

Image

Out Thanksgiving Sunday...  ....Nada.... :x

Took Monday off.....couldn't take another beating out there....

After work fish Today.....picked up a real nice smallie.....no muskies.... :x

Image

So here I sit.....exhausted after spending 9 of 12 days out on the water at some point.....All I can think about is thanking 2 people.....Gordo for putting up with me thru this past week....and Birdee for letting me do it.....Thanks a million to both of ya!

A Beaten RJ.... :)

RJ,

Fishing was brutal the one day I got out. At least you located & boated 3 muskies. So what if they weren't monsters, though I'd take the latter two happily (and the colors on the mini-muskie are gorgeous)!

Nice smallie, by the way.

And what's wrong with a banana in the meat boat, anyway?

W.
Thanks, Dad, for taking me fishing when I was a kid.

Nice work RJ. You dialed up a tall order and worked hard to make it happen. Great work out there. I take a lot of things into consideration when it comes to giving my vote and effort and hard workk is one of them. Good fishing!

Wolfe, there is nothing worse than a banana in a boat. It is a curse. Nothing brings you more bad luck than a banana.

And the bigger one too...

Well what a week and half it's been. The fishing wasn't the best, the pressure was on, man was the pressure on! I wasn't even in the contest and I really felt the pressure for RJ. I felt guilty for catching fish this week (not that any of them were monsters). I didn't even rub it in to RJ like we normally do. I don't remeber the last time we hit all of our hot spots and not even see a fish. I'm just glad we did get into some ski's on Saturday. I was getting worried about RJ. RJ just so you know you have my vote for the final round of Angling Idol. :D :D

Now as for the banana incident... if this is so important or is really such bad luck then someone should have said something to me (hint hint RJ we have only been fishing together for 6+ years), but now that I know I will never again bring one in the boat. I'm still not 100% sure why it is bad luck, but hey never again! :D :D :D :D
