This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

I have been pondering joining Muskie Canada for some time now but heard that the Ottawa chapter concentrated it's efforts on the Rideau, this may be hearsay or BS but it kept me in the pondering mode. I love the idea of this new chapter for the Ottawa in my area and hope you can keep us posted on the first meeting. I will endevour to be there and join up.

Hey Hawkers, I guess I have to throw in a "COME ON DOWN" to Gananoque Chapter of MC which I am a member and attend if I am at home which is only about 40 minutes away. I made about three quarters of the meetings last year and they are a bunch of great guys and gals.

I got back into MC after Shimano sent me over to do a presentation at the club and became a member the week after due to the good time had by all.

Musky's need every anglers help and beleive me when I say these guys/we are heard as a group for the good of the fish.

I am off to the Rideau tomorrow with the marketing/advertising manager from Shimano and I will let you know how I did tomorrow night.

If I don't post it means I am "hiding" since I am a has been, or fighting a giant into the night---bring lots of beer and pizza to the Landing if I don't post by midnight.

BIG~~~~~~~~~out to collect small fur bearing animals to tip my jig with------JUST KIDDING!!!!!.......

Arnprior and Renfrew will never be the same Kert  You did an excellent job in Toronto and I'm sure you will do great things in Arnprior. Good luck with the new chapter Kert. See you in 2006 when we make our annual trip to the 'Prior.

Cheers,

Aaron

Very Interesting Kert!

I haven't joined Muskies Canada....

I went to a Bells Corners meeting many moons ago and it really rubbed me the wrong way....so I never went back.....

With you at the helm of this chapter I'll give it another go....

For people who don't know Kert he has to be one of the most passionate fishermen I have met and his knowledge of muskies will blow your mind. Those of you that were took in his seminar at the Fish For The Cure know what i am talking about.
Congrats buddy and let me know when the first meeting is.
Cheers

Hi Kert, last time we talked (2004 Carp Fishing Show) you were disillusioned with the club and had quit. Just wondering what brought you back and what your current thoughts are. I cancelled my membership and quit my position as editor of the Muskies Canada Release Journal in Jan/05 over MCI's handling of the tournament issue. Don't get me wrong...MCI (who hold approx. 10 tournaments of their own each year)has done a lot of good in regards to muskie conservation over the years, however, the clubs decision to push for stringent regulations on tournaments with absolutely no research or basis in science has been very disturbing to me. As well, despite the rallying cry among MCI members (even since I joined the club back in 99) that large scale cash muskie tournaments are on their way to Canada and are not a matter of "if" but "when", there are still no large scale tournaments or events being held or planned in Canada. Even in the US the small handfull of large scale tournaments have trouble getting a full field.

I'm not stating any support for or against tournaments, just that I don't feel a club which represents less than 10% of Canada's muskie anglers should set policy for the rest of us.

Cheers

Well Chris you are right i was dissillusioned with the club. I was able to spend some time talking to Rob Howwitt at the spring Fishing show . He talked to me about his job and what he would like to see for the future of Muskies Canada . After many convesationswith my wife & local anglers non members of muskies canada and what there concerns were . I know i can make a differance . So it was time to put up or shut up . So here i am I hope you will consider comming out for a meeting so i can show you
what i hope to accomplish. As for the club setting policy for the rest of us that is why i think it so important to get involved . That is the only way we can make a differance is by speaking up.

musky

Post by g unis »

hey guys you know when we started down here in southern ontario. our motto is to have fun leave the politics out and influence youth into enjoying the outdoors fishing. chris i know your pains on THE issue. i also was set back on some proposals but down here we live with the tournie thing and channel our energies towards many positive things, being involved in the community and still ripping lips.. we leave out the egos, hiearchy, and attitudes and have been growing every year. as for our present president he is a man who listens and runs on an even keel. even though groups go thru hiccups and farts we all can achieve goood common goals BETTER MUSKY FISHIN.

I think it is due time for more focus on our local muskie fishery, there has never been any kind of research done in this area that I am aware of :?: Less secrecy and ego's and more sharing of pertinent information about our muskie's can only be good for the fish and the fisherman.

This chapter is a perfect venue for everyone to come out and share their stories, heartaches, idea's and concerns. I encourage all who hunt muskies on our local waterway's to come out and show their support.
