New Early C&R Bass Season for Americans - Lake St Clair/
bass
markus fines are just the price of doing business to some people. the laws on fishing and marine laws are a joke .i dont like to sound like a sourpuss but i have seen every form of violation imaginable. there are over 240 u.s. based marinas on st clair. i believe 28 canadian. the lake is 2/3 canadian waters. our mnr are overwhelmed in patrolling. if i was to venture in u.s waters homeland security will tell you to leave yet we have u.s. charterboats operating in our waters even picking up clientel on canadian soil. the bass issue is the bass people have a very loud voice pressuring their d.n.r., so know they have their way. i just wish they would stay in u.s. waters, but as i said 2/3 canadian waters. what would you think where they will be fishing. just another sad day bucks before future fisherys
Bacon;
Nope, it ain't gonna happen. I hardley fish at all till bass opens; and anyone who knows me knows that if I'm after pike or walleye, I won't be in the shallows during bass spawn.
Further, as long as I don't threaten anyone in particular, curse, or bust any hawker rules, I have a right to speak my mind, and shall.
Best regards to ya, and congrats on the huge weight loss; yer looking good...........well............ya know what I mean.
Jigs.

Hey Jigs...you comin on to me..
Yes you can say anything ya want within the rules, but I would hate to see something happend that you don't do.....but you get blamed for...all I am sayin.
Also..you say anyone that knows you knows if your fishin walleye or pike it won't be in the shallows...Well anyone who knows you also probably won't let the air out of your tires. It's the people you don't know. So, you can't say it ain't gonna happen.
For instance I was out fishin lakers earlier in the year...in a bass boat...bass was not open. Man did we ever get yelled at by some guy on shore. We were fishin in about 100FOW. He didn't know me. If he did he would have known I wasn't fishin bass nor would I out of season.
You don't know me or my vehicle so if you saw it at a launch pre bass would you assume I was fishin bass?

If you were to do a comparison....population (fisherman) vs available waters with a Bass population...US vs Can. I'm sure you'd see a huge diff. The fishing pressure on Bass in the US is much greater. I don't see Bass on the endangered species list anywhere...Can. or US. . But when I listen to some of the passionate debate about fishing "Bass" during the spawn....I have to ask why people are so concerned about such a ruling??? It's not like there are a lack of Bass anywhere...even where they are submitted to heavy pressure. They aren't commercially fished...to any extent that I'm aware of like other game fish...of course you don't want to see them go the way of the cod or Atlantic salmon, but wouldn't these energies be better spent protecting a species that's at the brink of extinction? Is the all mighty doallar winning over the conservation of the species here like the cod fishery??? Perhaps....but due to the fact that the species isn't commercially pressured...I'm not convinced the species is at risk of peril at all.

one thing here. bass have taken a hit. ask the guides and sportfishermen on st clair. quality and quanity are down from past years. some will argue. i am not opposed to a fishery being used and retained. unfortunately it seems there are different views from michigans d.n.r. and our m.n.r ont., on species size limits and quotas. our mnr is presently streamlining regs and regions .our region holds some major bass tournies possibly 2 dozen yearly, and no im not a biologist but as a layman i would rather see this not happen as after tournies you can see dead fish floating and this just adds to the pressure of it all. there are over 3 million people with accesability to this lake so if you have ever been here on a summers day its not unusual to see 100 bass fishermen and women using the system. now it wont matter if its a late spawn or not. hopefullly our m.n.r. will not follow suit in this case

Your biggest problem is multiple line usage and private vhf communique amongst each other when the CO boats are out
Dont allow me to drop names, even your fearless leader turns his head because its his friend
MMMMM,word is quite a few run a cheat rod, well OOS or extended pre season or multiple line usage should/is illegal.
Easy to point the finger George but point the finger at all
Funny thing is your chapter voted in favor of competitive fishing, now you are here complaining about bass tournies?
Go figure why the world speaks out of both sides of their mouth

whoa mark. we are speaking bass.do you know some bass fishermen run 40 miles to l.erie and come back the fish are released in st. clair. as this is really a non issue other then u.s. fishermen running the line into can waters.. your statement on vhf. thats not private airways, its open channel. as for our chapter voting for competetive fishing being O.K.its a free country still, thank god. the running of too many rods, have you been here to see that on the ontario side compliance has never been higher in following regs.. but in closing on this mail i believe you are speaking on musky which should be another thread.

Its no better than plungging em,or transporting fish to hang a minimum 50 incher off the docks for money or a trophy.
And yes George cheat rods are a big issue everywhere, what blows me away is who's doing it .
Dont need to go there (LSC),its known every where
Like you said "fines are just the price of doing business ".... Really
Best you dont try and sweep the nonsense, just clean it up
I do agree pre season fishing could have a negative impact.
Dont critize others unless you look in the mirror
Was there any discussions prior to this decision?
What involvement came from Canadian side?
I believe there may be info into regards of the potential loss of eggs or fry when males are pulled off beds. This type of info in correalation with population abundance and survivability % of fry or eggs could give you an inclination of what this potential could do in matters of managing the increase in population or diminishing the current population, you may also possibly find it will stabilize it.No one knows until the numbers are put together.Anyways its an idea to answering your concerns and possibly the next step in taking a decision to approach MICHIGAN DNR or not ,
with their proposed change in regulations

marc i look in the mirror every day like what i see.we have been constanly monitering issues. the m.n.r. try their best, but being undestaffed man hours are a premium. the too many rod issue is not a local thing.its from our neighbors across the way. as all waters there are issues, every species also.i personally dont agree on kill tournies as i have stated in the past, but i do believe its up to an individuals freedoms as long as they understand the consequences. be well and get a big one

Personally, I think the charter industry needs to be controled. There should be "x" number of licences available and they should have to be purchased. Currently you guys make a living (or an income) off a resource that is funded be tax payer and licence holders dollars.
$$'s generated by charter licence sales could be put back into managing and maintaining those resourses.

Know where your coming from but. The $$ we spend on licences go into a general fund, not the MNR, as was promised originally!! Guides and Charters must have to charge PST/GST, maybe I'm wrong, but again $$ that go back to our gov't, where do they spend it? Before we regulate these guys I would want to see commercials/natives better supervised/regulated. Charters/ guides are small businesses, if you have what it takes you'll make it, if you don't you'll sink, literally. That in itself will regulate #s.Markus wrote:Personally, I think the charter industry needs to be controled. There should be "x" number of licences available and they should have to be purchased.
